Nearly the end of the weekend, just enough time to tell you about EA's plans for their Battlelog system in the upcoming Battlefield 4 as detailed on the Battlefield Blog. (If we get Log commenting on this wearing a uniform would it be "Battle Log's Battlelog Battlefield Blog"?) Ahem. Battlelog is, of course, the Battlefield stat-tracking interface. It debuted for Battlefield 3 although the 360 version mainly used it as an optional service that you had to log onto from a computer, while on the PC it was an integral part of the game; accessible at all times and a required component. While it appears the 360 version will work similar to the way it does for BF3, it looks like the next generation consoles will allow the Xbox One to get a much more fully featured version of the service, accessible at all times via an in-game overlay. You'll be able to see what servers your friends are playing on, who is in your current squad or how you're progressing towards your next unlocks and ranks.
Most interestingly, you'll be able to create missions - challenges that you and up to four friends can take part in by setting objectives separate from the main ones of just winning the match based on the same criteria as Personal Records - so stuff like kills with a certain weapon or vehicle, or number of points captured. You then pick the map for the challenge and number of attempts, then you and your buddies have 48 hours in which to beat your friends and claim victory, with updates via Battlelog keeping you in the loop on the progress.
In related Battlefield 4 news, EA have also released another trailer for the game, focused specifically on that all-important multiplayer, find it embedded below:
And finally, in an update to our story last week on the Battlefield 4 beta, EA have since clarified that the October 1st start date is for those with early access (those who own Battlefield 3 Premium membership or Medal of Honor Warfighter's Limited Edition) - everyone else will be able to join in from the 4th October.
