Yes to to see exactly how far away from the moon we are so any one with the equipment can bounce a laser off it .. That's one good bit of evidence that we went there .. Turns out to moon is leaving earths orbit by about 2 inches a year , may not sound much but in a few hundred thousand years will leave our orbit with catastrophic consiquences
