Info Microsoft Remote Desktop App For iOS And Android Announced

Hot on the heels of the news that Microsoft would be bringing a touch-ready version of Office to iPad at some unspecified time in the near future, the Redmond company has just announced that Remote Desktop is also about to hit the iTunes App Store and the Google Play Store. Unlike Office for iPad, which didn’t really get much of an ETA from Steve Ballmer, the software maker has issued an indirect press release on the state of RDP, noting that it will become available to those on iOS and Android by the end of the month.

A large portion of iOS users remain with Apple through and through, and will most likely remain unfazed as a result of this news. However, while it has taken Microsoft an unholy amount of time to build and release its popular catalog of apps for the major platforms, it is good to see the promises and projections finally begin to culminate into some kind of action, and there will certainly be a sizeable faction of iOS users who will welcome this release with open arms.

The OS X version of the company’s Remote Desktop client has been around for a while, but the same cannot be said of Apple’s and Google’s mobile platforms, which is notably bereft of apps from one of its major competitors. But with the Windows creator now really making a big push in mobile space, as well as in the cloud, we should see the likes of Office for iPad and Remote Desktop for all denominations of iOS and Android devices in the not so distant future.

In its official press statement, Microsoft noted that:
With Windows Server 2012 R2 Microsoft is introducing the Microsoft Remote Desktop app, available for download in application stores later this month, to provide easy access to PCs and virtual desktops on a variety of devices and platforms, including Windows, Windows RT, iOS, OS X and Android.

So, there you have it. Remote Desktop for iOS and Android is (almost) finally here, and we’ll be sure to give you all of the relevant information once it does make its way to the App and Google Play Store(s), so make sure you stay tuned to our coverage here at Redmond Pie!
