Awesome! Made some Yorkshires, mash and kept the veg cooked with it.
Mash is carrot and potato with cream!

FYI.. you can make stuff like jam & chutney in em.. never tried but I did once make a batch of sweet chilli sauce (sort of jam I suppose) got a few jars out of the old chillis left growing on my chilli plant when winter was setting in..

The Nigella version is done on the hob in Cola for a couple of hours and then trim off the fat before coating in a mustard/brown sugar mix and black treacle for a half or so to glaze it. Very good it is too
Because of this thread I've just bought the crock pot 3.5litre slow cooker.
I'm a chef to trade so we don't use them too much at work. That said I've got loads of recipe ideas I'm going to try and report back how they go.
Starting simple today
1kg pork ribs.
1 whole white onion sliced finely
Some mixed spices (will report back which and quantities when done)
1/2litre coke
1/2 litre veg stock
Cook

I cooked a Pork Loin joint in ours yesterday for 5 hours while we were out....it was the tenderest piece of pork Ive ever had!!
Much better than roasting it!!

Question on the tenderness of the meat with Ribs..
Seems to be a debate in the 'BBQ' world that Ribs should have some bite to them. The meat falling off the bone is not the correct way to have ribs. How do you like them?
Personally I love them when cooked indirectly on the BBQ for a long time so the bone is just sticking out (natures thermometer Steven Raichlen calls it) and they have a little bite, but meat falling off too is ok for me!
We all make mistakes sometimes
My opinion if meat on the none is chewy needs cooked more.
Ribs should be falling apart almost

Here's a fav recipe of mine you can spend a decent wedge doing it using best cuts etc and can cost £30 however I also have experimented using cuts of beef and pork and nice pack of Cumberland sausage all from Aldi and brings it in at £9-10 and tastes great serves 4 fattys or 6 lighter eaters or me if I'm hungry 😄
I've adapted it a bit to Slow cooker the lot and tastes even better 👍
then serve with pasta and bread covered in lurpack
love this on a sat night or Sun dinner if not having roast
Using Aldi ingredients change meat for these items
1 pack butchers Cumberland sausage
1 pack pork steaks cut to strips
1 pack diced beef

Method
1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan, add the onion and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until softened.
2. Add the beef, ribs and sausages to the pan and continue to fry until the meat is browned all over (you may need to do this in batches).
3. Increase the heat, stir in the diluted tomato concentrate and continue to cook until the volume of the liquid is reduced by one-third.
4. Add the tomatoes and basil, season with salt and freshly ground black pepper and stir well.
5. Bring to the boil, then lower the heat to a simmer, cover and cook very gently for about two hours, or until the sauce is thick and silky. Stir from time to time, checking that there is enough moisture; if necessary add a little more wine or water.
6. Remove from the heat and serve with pasta as suggested above, or on its own with lots of good bread to mop up the rich tomato sauce.

I followed big brands recipe except swapped the water and stock for coke.
Made the dry rub for the pork
Rubbed the pork with mix and set aside.
Chopped 2 large onions and 6 garlic cloves into small chunks and placed into slow cooker.
Covered with coke until onions were covered (I allowed 1 to 2 inches deep in coke)
switched slow cooker to high and placed in pork.
waited for a good 3 1/2 hours before lowering to medium heat.
Left for a good 3 hours and removed pork carefully from cooker.
drained liquid into a container and using a holed spoon scooped out the onions and placed into a bowl.
added a decent squirt of BBQ sauce to the onions and added a little of the juice and mixed well.
meanwhile the missus was breaking down the pork with two forks which fell apart anyway
Mixed the pork in the onion BBQ mix and turned until it was all covered.
Added a decent amount to a nan bread with some coleslaw and enjoyed fully.
youngest had it in a sandwich and wanted more.....
I strongly suggest rice with it makes a great meal
Edit:

I managed to bag a Crock Pot during Amazon's Black Friday deals. It finally arrived last week and I made pork chops with it to test it out.
Ingredients were:
2 regular pork chops
2 neck chops
Sauce:
- 4 tablespoons dark brown soft sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 125ml soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of Worcester sauce
- 4 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- salt and pepper to taste
Dipped the chops in the sauce bowl just to get them all covered, placed them in the pot then poured the sauce over them. Left on low for 6 hours.
I'm not much of a cook but I have to say that a prep time of 5 minutes and the fire-and-forget nature of slow cooking is right up my street.
Boiled some rice to go with it and the result was a very impressed missus! She sucked me dry later that night!

I have done bigbrands recipe a couple of times now to rave reviews. Should have said thanks before now but I did refer to DF forum when I served up both times lol. I have tried it with nan bread and also with mexican rice....both were fab with the pulled pork.

I've got Bigbrand's recipe in the slow cooker as i type this, it's been on since 9.30 and my house smells awesome, if it tastes as good as it smells i'll be in heaven.
Some crackers on here, got myself a 6.5 litre Slow Cooker over Christmas, tried a Gammon Joint and made some fab soup so far, lots to get my teeth into in this thread, thanks all.
I gave away my (well used)crock pot for this upgrade. . . http://www.morphyrichards.co.uk/prod...lticooker.html
Ignore the price, they can be had for half that, 5 litre capacity but does so much more than slow cook, I'll be using it to stir fry today. I did the Coca Cola Gammon Joint recipe for boxing day, 8 hours in 2 litres of coke, defeckinlicious!! I made my own Pease Pudding and had it with pineapple, roast veggies. . . . .seriously NOM!
The Intellichef seems a bit gimmicky at first but it's really practical, it even deep fries!!
Looks superb that blaggard I'll put that on my shopping list, where do you recommend getting one from?
