OSX Mavericks released free to the Mac App Store!!!!!!

Downloading the new OSX Mavericks from the app store now, it just got released today for free today, very surprising from apple of all companies!!


it appears that Microsoft Windows is now the only major consumer OS that isnt free.

As much as it is a very good gesture etc... I have been bitten by updates before (not just Apple).

My Mac Mini acting as my Home Server is working away nicely at the moment with Plex, Air Video HD, SABNZBD, Sickbeard etc... I know they should all just 'work' but I want to see what happens to others first.

I also utilise Automater for a few things, again it would be annoying if I had to reset all of that and start over.
I do have faith but they cannot test/prepare for everyones set up.

I will put it onto the Air if it is compatible to try though. I am waiting for all the traffic to die down first before jumping in.

Installed on my 2013 MacBook Pro retina without a hitch. Did it last night and it downloaded and installed in about 30 minutes. Seems okay. Supposed to be a bit quicker than last version but I haven't had a chance to give it a good whirl yet.

Virtual DJ, Warcraft and Steam still work so I'm happy with it lol.

It broke a few things for me and I had to update my Little Snitch to 3 but getting over most of it OK. . .

One thing that does interest me is using an Apple TV as a remote display. Has anyone tried this and how well does it work ?

I used the Apple TV before as air play mirroring, not the same thing?

I dunno, It's listed as a new feature, under the cut the cord heading on that page. I'm presuming as a second display rather than a mirror

Yes now you can use it as a second display not just mirroring.

Personally I don't see any performance or battery life improvements on my 2010 MacBook Pro

Just a word to the wise...if you are using XBMC on your Mac then think twice about installing Mavericks. XBMC Frodo won't work and apparently it seems to be quite an issue around the web...apparently one of the alpha nightly releases has fixed it but you, or I, will need to hold out for the Gotham release....using Mac Mini for my media box btw

I upgraded one of the Macs here in work to test everything on, now I can't screen share from a Mountain Lion machine to it. Seems to be a common problem. Grrrrr...

In Finder, the swipe 3 fingers gesture doesn't work on my Macbook Pro for going back and forwards, but yet it works in Chrome etc still.

Does this happen with anyone else?

Managed to get a nightly build running on mavericks but the mouse pointer doesn't work properly in it. Works fine with a apple remote though.

Working fine here. Have you checked it is still selected in system preferences?
