Default So where do you start with a MAG250

    So I ordered a MAG250 and it's arrived today.

It's come with a custom firmware on, customised for BalticTV, although it won't seem to take the standard firmware from the Infomir site as it says it's an invalid file header.

I've tried testing the Russian TV etc and the quality is way better than I expected - it's better quality on SD than my Sky box!

So I just wondered what you're supposed to do next with these - do you have to flash the firmware to the standard ROM or do you just leave them with whatever they come with and add channels to them?

    Thanks in advance!

I'm in a similar situation , but I'm holding fire on getting one as I'm trying to gather as much info as possible.
Currently using enigma2 box , but very interested in the mag250 as its dish free.

Well it looks like this is the firmware process here:

    http://wiki.infomir.eu/doku.php/en:f...are_mag200_250

Just trying it as we speak!

    ..:: Edit ::..
Yep that's looking better - it's just writing the standard image to NAND now!

Turns out I dropped a clanger setting this up - the box was defaulting to PAL and I'd not really been impressed with the HD channels (assumed it just meant the source was HD but the stream was SD)

I changed the box to 1080p/50 and rebooted it and then absolutely everything was locked in 1920x1020 and the HD streams looked immense - I'd say as good as my Sky HD for sure!

Where are you getting the streams from rev?

Got a box with a trial a few weeks ago. Removed the server once finished and it's sat there since doing nowt.

I'd just tried a trial mate to see how it goes - it finishes in about an hour!

Same boat as me then. Finding it's a bit more expensive then I was expecting - especially as a backup to my sat system. Spent around £140 so far this season in not paying $ky !!
Disappointed last night for example when I couldn't find a decent (by comparison) stream online for ManU vs Norwich match.

You need an Al Jazeera sub for the footy. There are a few choices available. All around £25 a month though. There's a great thread in the VIP area. But if you want a link to them, PM me. As you're a long term member..!

    Cheers Geko, but no need.
Have a sub(£20 this year) on my Vu Solo and also NBC Live sports and PremAD accounts for games not shown on UK Sat. Being a ManU fan there's generally never an issue as they must be the most televised team going. Didn't want to pay to watch one game last night.
The mag was an impulse/effort to future-proof the then-impending failure of my subbed service. Knew the costs at the time but hoped they'd drop quickly or at least find a decent monthly deal. Compared to what I've paid so far even £20pm is a lot. Greedy beggar me.

I am in a similar boat, but I didn't buy the MAG.

Some very good info here. I have had my MAG250 collecting dust for a month now, just waiting for some time to set it up!
I will continue to use the Skybox for $ky but I am very interested in getting Al Jazeera pass for the other footy.

Hopefully more competition will knock the price down. As 25 £ is a lot.
Its a damn shame ajs sports cant be picked up on 1m dishes any more . ( those that show the epl games that is)

Can anyone recommend a good paid subscription?
For this year only i paid for AJ which is a hit and miss with the whole geoblocked problem! tried OSS but i'd rather avoid the whole offline/online now it works now it doesn't, and the two most recently would be the NBC sports live i have which is not bad but only covers the EPL ( my basic concern) but i'd rather have the option of a set top box like MAG 250 which seems to be my first choice, and i've been meaning to buy one as soon as i find a good sub. for this year.
I've discovered NTV and giving it a week trial now! Not bad at the moment though i want to test it on a major match to see how it responds.
    Any thoughts?

    50 Euro a month for a mag250 vs 20 for a web/XBMC access? Steep
    VPN needed also.
    I'll wait

    Hi
The MAG250 does not need a VPN on order to pick up 'international' channels, but agree the current subs doing the rounds are a bit pricey.

    It isn't 50 quid a month. It's more like 25-30.
