New F3s/F5s software

Just been reading up that the F3s and F5s have a software update.
The update gives you a new 7day EPG which you have to have a USB stick plugged into in order for it to use.

All sounds good... BUT... You have to jump through hoops to see the EPG each time and the channel ordering is not as you would expect. It is not as simple as pressing EPG or the info button.

Positive as they are clearly looking at giving it a better EPG, but personally I will be sticking with the current way which is to look at the channels on the EPG on the iPad and switch channels as and when.

This does not work on the F5, has to be an F5s apparently.

I can confirm im working closely with a dev and we are trying to get an add-on done for the skyboxes which link to the online sky guide anonymously
this way you only have to press a couple of buttons and you will have the full epg from sky.

I take it you will need a USB stick though, so if you are successfully using the Wifi Dongle (who is?? mine went in the bin!) then you won't be able to use it?

no m8, the patch will NOT need either wifi OR a USB dongle!!
it will (hopefully) patch the official firmware so that it adds this as an extra network service. its being worked on now.

its not ready yet m8 but should be soon, it will be a network service similar to youporn or redtube (that's included on some fw's)

Shame it cant do auto channel scanning and sorting like sly boxes too det. That would be a killer sell on these boxes

I believe we do get what we pay for.. A channel update every now and then is fine by me for what I paid.
I ditched $ky a long time ago and to be honest the EPG is just a waste of time.. It takes a good few minutes to go from 101 to whatever the last channel is only to realise there is naff all on!

I only use mine for Footy but if they did make the EPG better then would certainly try it out.

yeah they are brilliant little boxes for the price, even if just used as a freesat hd box

btw, we still working on the sky guide app, having quite a few probs because the nand has just about reached its limit with the youtube/porn apps on them so it looks like to get the sky app working we will have to do a cfw with the porn removed to enable us to fit it on the box and get it working

The epg would be a huge bonus, and I would gladly see youporn gone to make way for it, I never use it, just go on comp if u need the blueys that badly, massive reapect heading Detectors way if this one happens!!!

i have not long logged into the Forum & just read this possible great bit of News.
i use the F5s & would say that the F5s is not a bad box for the £'s, But having to use an external device to get epg is a pain.
here hopes it comes together & have the epg with having to use an external

I must admit the EPG on the current F5S is dire to say the least and my sis-in-law ditched her skybox for that exact reason as she said it took 10 mins just to see what's on :-)

For me I have mine on top of my $ky receiver and switch to the skybox when watching sports - as all my sport channels are arranged in the same favourite bucket (came pre-loaded that way). So I use $ky for the usual entertainment and movies and the Skybox for the sports only. I can't get rid of $ky as the wife and kids use it too much for the recording features and catchup stuff, so I relented and use both - at least cancelling the sports on $ky has been enough to pay for the Skybox several times over :-D
