    Default Job and salary thoughts

I'm pondering another job, same field.

Below are a few ramblings, and I wondered what DF thought:

    Current Job:

Global company, i'm working in the UK operating business
I enjoy it and it is a challenge.
Loads of work to do, which keeps me very busy. Infact too much work to the point where I have people chasing things constantly and whatever I do will mean that something else isnt done.
I am up at 5am and get home at about 8pm every weekday. I try and work from home once a week but I'm usually still knackered.
I am suffering burnout due to the very long hours and commute (40 miles each way) out of london and then M25 and M4.
I punch above my weight and grade where I am, and carry a reasonable level of seniority.
I dont think I have any prospects of progression where I am today, at least not for a few years.

    Job of interest:

    Large global company, well respected
London based, meaning tube commute and reasonable hours
    Potentially a sideways move
Company seem to believe in the field of work (as opposed to box ticking)
Prospects of expansion (based in USA)

    So....

Would what would make you move given the above?
How much remuneration in % is a reasonable move worth? Im not greedy, but at the same time i know that my worth outside of where I currently work is much higher.

From what you've said, it sounds like a no-brainer? Similar job, but a better work/life balance?

how much is your health + homelife worth?

i was self employed, pulling in quite a lot of money - but working solidly for 5 years, no days off.

cost me my family and started to cost me my health.
now i earn next to nothing (in comparison) but i have my life back, i have enough money to live on, i have time for my family and i am happier than ever.

if you have more time to spend with loved ones and less stress id say go for that opportunity

Think you have already made up your mind.

Be wary though the new company can bin you for anything up until you have been with them for 2 years, if you have been at your current company now for more than 2 then you are far better protected.

As for your current role, I do slightly the same hours (a bit more0, further commute of 95 miles each way, gets tiring by the end of the week, especially if I throw in a few pints midweek. Does take a lot out of you though

The only note of caution i would make is the US company part. US companies tend to work you even harder than their euro counterparts so you could find that you end up working even harder very soon. but a good enough salary jump could be worth it

be wary, the grass is always greener - the company you're looking at wont be telling you the crap stuff and will oversell the good. Whilst the role may look the same now on paper you may end up doing something more junior which can be incredibly frustrating trying to get back to where you were.

Work/Life balance is out if you ask me I have had higher paid roles in the past but working 50-60 hours per week, its not good for you or your home life, i now work 37hours a week a mile from home, less money but never been happier....

I took a massive pay cut when I went to my new employer
However I now work 3 miles from home and get more time with family and friends

If your thinking about it then the decisions been made

I used to drive miles for a higher waged job but found it ended up making me feel really ill over a prolonged period so ditched it for a local place. As long as the money means you can still live comfortably then go for it.

It's been so long since my jobs been otherwise that I can't remember the times when it was fun to go there.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...
