Fucking Leeches

What can we do to stop them?

Seems over the last few weeks we've had an influx of leeches on the Skybox stuff, I know it's become more active, including me learning a lot more (thanks Det)

But it seem everyday a new person joins for info on a Skybox!

Some of its down to the google search engine. Df pops up at in different search criteria. Staff are on this ASAP. All we ask is you use the report button whenever you see this happening as some do pass by un-noticed

Fair do's will do.... Only ever used the report button once cos I thought it might fuck you mods off more than actually help.... Guess I was wrong !!

I know it must get a pain, but in all honesty, most forums I've joined have been for an initial selfish reason of wanting info, then I've just hung about like a bad smell with some because I found further interest other than my initial joining interest. Wheat from the chaff through time I guess.

It is a very hard balance to make between out and out leech and someone who could become a productive member, some are fairly straight forward spamming to make 10 posts with thanks etc but others it is a hard call but I think on balance most that don't get banned are going to stay and engage.

I know from first hand running several online forums the amount of work that was involved just keeping the spammers out, it was a full time job just for that so you have to have a good team behind you with something as big as df. that said we can all see the spammers a mile off.

example:
Hi im cameron (old skool joke) I just joined and I bought a skybox of a dodgy geezer in Newcastle market and its scrambled, can you help?
oh yeah I forgot my car needs a radio code and mileage correction too.

Having been a member a while ago and having to re-register because,like a dickhead,I forgot my old email password I'm being very careful not to come across as a leech or just trying to get my post count up,I don't actually need anything at the moment. I came back because this is the best forum I have ever been involved with and as I have found in the past,if your not a complete thundercunt,people will go out of their way to help if they can.
Anyway,this is my tenth post so hopefully I can finally see the fucking links people put on! Lol

I think its much more about the people here than the links.

I've always help on matters I'm able too and by return members here have gone far out of their way to help me.

I suspect many people here think the same which is why the core membership remains and feel a little protective when would be members come along.

I came here yonks ago looking for info for STUFF that was going on back then. Learnt a great deal, but also stuck around and have made the odd bit of contributions etc.
Can't deter people from joining who might actually offer more than we thought. They could be members of other communities and could offer us valuable info.

I`m almost too scared to make my first post,just joined to get some info on the Now TV box i`ve bought.
I`m basically hopeless with any sort of gadgets,my 4 yr old daughter knows how to get around a computer better than me!
I hope you`ll not class me as a leech and maybe i can give some input on something i`m good at....Drinking beer and moaning a lot!
