PS4 and X-Box One Install Times comparison - Huge difference

How Long Until You Can First Play A Game On PS4 And Xbox One

[Since this has been asked in the comments a lot: We recorded these times with the consoles hooked up normally. Even though having the PS4 plugged into the Xbox shouldn't affect anything, we only did that for the video]

Assassin's Creed IV:
Xbox One (offline, no update): 5 minutes 50 seconds
Xbox One (with update, fastest connection): 7 minutes 2 seconds
Xbox One (with update, 10Mbps connection): 10 minutes 32 seconds
PS4: 42 seconds

The rest of these were tested on our office Wi-Fi which is around 9-11Mbps. It may have been faster on a wired connection, but you can compare your own connection speed here. These are our results:

Need For Speed Rivals:
XBO: 09:25 (including update)
PS4: 00:32

Just Dance 2014:
XBO: 08:48 (including update)
PS4: 00:45

NBA Live 14:
XBO: 16:26 (including update)
PS4: 00:35

FIFA 14:
XBO: 16:06 (including update)
PS4: 00:34

Madden 25:
XBO: 9:38 (including update)
PS4: 00:38

Looks like the PS4 handles background installs much better that the X-Box one does, and the PS4 will download any updates in the background too. Seems like a complete switch from the 360/PS3

It took sooooooo long for mine to install Forza I actually thought it'd had crashed several times, it's appalling.

It used to be the only way around. The number of times I've switched on my PS3 for a quick blast only to be made to wait ages for updates, it does my head in. Good to see Sony have worked on this.

I agree, this has always been a real pain. But knowing once installed it takes the same amount of time to start up, I am not sre how much this might effect my descision. Well, I have made my choice, PS first and XboX second, but both will be purchased.

I guess it will be the same on the initial install for both consoles. But once its intalled it shojld b fine. I have my one setup to auto install any updates. So there shouldnt be any waiting times..

The ps4 times looks quick there I bet it is installing in the background as you play. Killzone allows this feature but priorities data on what your doing. (Say your playing multiplayer it will do the multiplayer map first based on your lobby)
NBA onlys a exhibition game between 2 fixed players whilst it's downloading (with no commentating)
Ghosts apparently has play whilst it installs but it never worked for me.

Saying that, FIFA has a 10gb install and that was done well under 3 minutes.

It's also depends on your hdd. My friend has a 7200rpm and that is rapid at everything (everything loads a good 10-11 seconds ahead )

Xbox ONE does this aswell when I installed Forza it was 50-60% installed but also playable ;-)

id rather id did stuff when i have the machine switched on, rather that it getting up to stuff when i'm not 'using it'

Are the updates much different in size? I'm guessing that the PS4 games may have not needed such a big patch or summat.

Had a lads PS4 night last night and was impressed that we could just bang the games in and play them pretty much straight away after unboxing the console. Played 3 in total so that's prob an extra half hour of play we got vs an Xbox One. Now the games are installed though it doesn't really count for much though.

It always used to be the other way round. MS patches were a lot smaller as they just contain the changes needed to files, whereas PS3 contained the whole file so were bloated. The one update I saw get installed was 340MB so I'm guessing not much has changed on that front.

These are games that were rushed to market to make launch. Probably will not see this in the future.

Really? GTA V didn't have online play for first two weeks. Unfinished games are the norm now they don't have to test them as thoroughly, get the early adopters to report the bugs and fix them afterwards.
