    Attention Virgin Media Price Increase

    Hi guys,

Just had a letter stating Virgin Media are putting their f*cking prices up again. I have 100 / 120mb broadband and talk unlimited and mines going up another £3.25 a month. As I can only get Virgin Media in my area I am getting rid of the phone line and package in January and will make the permanent switch to VOIP.

Yeah got that letter as well. Cheeky fuckers. I suspect a quick phone call to retention threatening to leave will resolve the problem.

mine has gone up each time they have told me i was having an upgrade, wasnt always instant but im definitely getting better speeds - not to happy about the price hike, going to drop the TV and phone in the new year and go for broadband only i think

Did for me. Actually got a price reduction and a TiVo. You've always got to try - they really on the vast majority just accepting it or not caring enough to challenge it.

I got the letter yesterday as well. In August I reduced my package to basic phone and low internet speed and nothing from the telly other than freeview shit and it's still been costing me 30-40 quid a month at that. I really want to get a better deal but from my chats with them I'll need to sign into a new 12 month contract and I don't really want to do that.

Maybe that's part of their marketing strategy.. loads of people ring up and complain/ Talk about leaving etc. because of the price increase so they can offer them a slightly better deal but tied in for another 12 months.

Yeah I had to agree to another 12 months but been with them for 16 years so didn't worry me. End of the day, VM will never go 12 months without changing something so the contract is breached anyway. Retentions acknowledged that the price increase nulled my contract and that's why they were so accommodating.

I always say I want to be paying less/using less services and it seems to push the right buttons. One thing I did notice was the 'thinking of leaving us' option has been removed so be prepared for the CS to try it on. When I realised I hadn't got a helpful CS agent I asked how much notice they need for me to cancel and go to Sky. They told me if I wanted to cancel my account I'd have to pay up for the rest of the contract period. As soon as I said not true as a price increases breaches contract, they put me straight through to retentions.
The CS are a jolly lot in that dept. Every call must end up with a happy customer.

These companies are starting to see themselves as utilities, like water and power. i.e. they can charge whatever they want as people can't live without the service.

Annoying thing is that they are basically right :/

i have the xl tv, the lowest ( i think 20mb ) broadband and the phone. I never use the landline phone. but they say they have given me a £19 a month reduction off my bill, which has been in place for ages. I had no idea of this, as my bill for this month is £65..
    fcuk knows how that is.

and originally I signed up on the 3 for £30 deal..!

so really my bill would be over £80 per month. I said cancel the phone line as I never use it, and they tell me my bill would be more expensive to remove it, as I'd lose the discount i didnt even know it had.. how does that work?!

Have you actually spoken to retentions mate? It's the XL tv that's the cost there. Not sure you're going to get a huge reduction but you should at least be on up to 60mb broadband for that price. If you're really on 20mb that's a legacy tier. I'm sure retentions would be able to sort out a better deal. Virgin used to say you needed their phone line but that's not the case now.

    i currently pay £53 a month

    TV M+ (i think) + Tivo box
Evening and Weekend Call package (never used once in 6 years)
    120MB internet

i also get the £19 discount or whatever it is for having the 3 services combined, drop 1 of them and the package overall becomes more expensive, well annoying

I pay £47 for S TV, 60 Meg Broadband and a phone I don't even have plugged in. I'm either going to go broadband only this year or ring up and see what deal I can get as its annoying paying all that when others are getting more channels and double the broadband speed.
