Does any one have a Western Digital 3.5" 500gb Sata Hard drive WD5000AAJS or simlar for sale or free?

Need to recover some files from my died HDD (Not displaying in the bios or windows, Drive powers up and spins but nothing detects)

Apparently these drives are known for the pcb/firmware modules to die or fail. Need to use the PCB as a donor to try and get some life back to recover..



Any help would be great..

You will need a board that has the same firmware revision as the dead one you have at present if you want your idea to work.

Yeah Pegasus, Been reading shit loads about it and need to swap over the marvel ic if that's not blown. Or failing that try and recover the firmware recovery off the drive.

Sorry m8, my mistake, the 500GB is a Maxtor the western Digital is an 80GB model on green pcb it says 2060-701292-002 rev A if that's any good.

I've got a 500GB WD5000AAKS ive taken some photos of the pcb etc so you can compare how close they are if at all, I must agree with Pegasus when he says you will need the same firmware or very close to the same for you to have any chance of this working. I have tried this a couple of times and the only success occurred when everything was identical. If they look close enough you can have the drive just for postage I was only going to put it in a server but your need seems more deserving than mine. Just let me know

Scott23red, Is there any chance you can take the pcb board off the drive and show a pic of the board? If its a marvel IC and has no U12 then it might just work. Thanks btw

Drive sent today No charge enough people have done me favours here. Its recorded and should fingers crossed be with you tomorrow - Hope it works and let me know when you get it
