Default Few questions regarding updating to IOS7 JB

Looking at doing this before Apple tighten the screws (missed my chance to go to 6.x)

Currently my ipad 3 is on 5.1 JB and I have a number of games I really dont wanna lose the save date from. Last time I updated I lost quite a few hours of screen poke time but this time I have had the unit for over 12 months without updating.

I understand you should back up via itunes, then JB, then restore but itunes will spot any kooky apps which I am happy to reinstall manually but will I lose my saves on those?

Good question... To be extra pre-cautious you could buy PKGBackup fro cydia and make a full backup of your device and all apps to Dropbox/Box, then make the full backup to iTunes too and update to 7.0.4. Once update completes don't restore the device yet, jailbreak it and install the latest app sync, then restore from backup in iTunes.

It would be better to buy the hooky apps, that way you can just restore from backup and jailbreak afterwards.

    - Just realised you said kooky, are all your apps legit? Are you concerned about data in apps bought from the App Store?

hooky / kooky. tomato / tomatoe OK, kooky i mean, obtained without payment, I think its mainly games, not sure if any apps I have are from other sources. Actually now I think about it, I do have a calender app called CalenMob (free) that I really dont want to lose the info in it as its a record of when my slippery chinese boss has paid me.Theres nothing from cydia I have paid for, that I need anymore so its just the games front really.

Pkgbackup should allow you to backup the app data from app store apps so might be a good buy, I bought it from cydia. I can't guarantee your data will be safe as I don't have any pirate apps any more, seeing as you are making a big jump on iOS versions I would backup to Pkgbackup, iTunes and iCLoud if you have it. Then make sure iTunes syncs all apps from your phone to your PC then take the plunge. If something is critical (your calendar app for example) perhaps note down the content just in case.

Yes, make sure Pkgbackup is set to backup everything, this might take some time but better safe than sorry. You could restore then JB, during the restore you will receive errors when trying to copy the dodgy apps as appsync won't be installed, you can then JB, install appsync and sync the final apps over.

The concern for me is the fact you are jumping from iOS5 to iOS7. I seem to remember one update I did (may have been iOS4 to iOS5) the appdata wasn't backed up and restored so I had to complete Angry Birds again This was a legit app too. By backing everything up and making notes of any crucial data you are doing all you can to preserve the data

Upgraded on friday and everything went smooth, hats off the apple, the backup and restore thing worked very well on all my legit apps, games seem to have kept my progress too. Not delved into restoring my dodgy apps yet though.
