    Default new toy

i bought a supercharger to mount on one of my bikes but someone offered me lots of cash for it (lots more than i paid for it) so thats gone out the window, felling a bit dejected i started to look for a bike that i always wanted and low and behold one turned up at a very good price - so good that i had to go and see it.
the old adage of if it seems too good to be true and all that was ringing in my ears as i viewed the bike, the owner was emigrating and had a few wannabe test pilots and tyre kickers, time was drawing close for him (HPI was all clear - made sure of that) and i waved a bundle of pound notes under his nose and his wife made him accept

Is it the Edwards or the Haga? Mate at works got the Edwards rep, he bent the wheels on a kerb on his way to the IOM ferry last year, cost him 2 grand to replace them. Cracking bike though.

its the edwards rep - its currently got the cheapo brembo wheels on it right now, my forged OZ racing wheels should be back on monday

fook - just sorted the insurance for it, its a group 17 bike with all mods declared £101 for the year and yet its going to cost £60 to take off my nitrous injected z1000 and add the Mille.
    bastards...

It was the magnesium OZ wheels he bent, managed to limp it onto the ferry but couldnt ride the TT couse on it when he got there, as the tyres wouldnt hold pressure. Managed to talk a mate into lending him his R1 on the last day for a couple of laps. Local wheel refurb place told him when he got back he couldnt straighten them because the metal is so hard to work with, and conventional straightening jigs would barely touch it. Managed to find a pair on Ebay for just shy of 2k.
Then, after finally sorting that, his battery went flat on a run to Matlock, and he had to come home on an AA wagon, then his rear brake seized on and warped the disc on a run to Spurn Point. Despite all that, he still loves it and wont sell it for anything.

i have a bit of a reputation for tuning/servicing rotax powered bikes and as such have done lots of work on them, i have seen and fixed most problems that plague some of these bikes.
that said, when the 'italian' issues are ironed out they can be just as (or even, more) reliable than jap brand sports bikes.

my brother-in-law has a 2007 fireblade, i have worked on the motor and tuned it slightly - it absolutly flies! but its got no soul, it feels cold and clinical to ride. i call it the BMW M5 of the bike world.
yes, its faster in a straight line than mine but mine with its ohlins and OZ's goes round corners MUCH faster and when parked up at the Ace cafe i am the one that has a hell of a job getting to my bike as there is always people round it having a good look.

well, that didnt take long - im modifying the Mille!

    bigbore kit on order,
gen2 big valve heads arrived - waiting for me to port and flow,
57mm throttlebodies ready for high flow injectors and boring to 60mm

should be good for at least 145bhp at the rear wheel with 80ftlb of torque

soooo, considering the 1060 bigbore gen2 motor that i am building for it i thought i would need to upgrade the clutch - so i ordered a sigma slipper clutch for it.

hmmm, it will have lots more grunt, the suspension is all ohlins and the wheels are oz racing forged items - what do i now need - oh yes, upgrade the brakes.

PFM supersport ductile iron race discs arrived this morning

One less of them on the roads now-mate phoned me from Liverpool hospital this morning, had a near head-on at the TT, braked hard and flipped him over the bars, landed head first and got a compound fracture on his arm, his missus was on the back and broke her arm and got a bit banged up. Seemed in fairly good spirits though, fingers crossed for a quick recovery.

latest news is he has bruising and swelling on his spine, and because of that hes currently got next to no feeling or movement in his arms and legs, but docs are confident itll come back as the swelling goes down. BUT-the bike survived with barely a scratch, in fact, his mate rode it back to the UK the day after.

    a little update,
bought a genuine 2003 colin edwards replica frame (on a 2004 plate) so will be reframing my bike - newer reg than mine

also in talks with a couple of suppliers for the bigbore kit, one has an 1103cc bigbore kit and will do it for the same price as the one selling a 1060cc kit.
just not sure on the cylinder wall thickness on the 1103cc kit - 102mm diameter pistons - stock ones are 97mm
