    Help Front door mortice lock

Currently my door works exactly the same from the inside and outside. When you shut the door, you can open it without the need for a key (unless I lock it with the key obviously). I would like to change it so that when you shut the door and pushed the handle up on the inside it can only be opened using the handle on the inside. To open it from the outside a key would be required. It's the standard 5 lever mortise bollox or whatever it's called.

The wife said a friend to her you can buy something to fit quite easily but she's not too sure what it's called.

Any ideas or solutions to stop someone potentially just walking in when the door is unlocked?

Only in Britain….do we use the word “politics” to describe the process of Government. “Poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking
    creatures”

What type of door / lock is it?

    THIS or THIS

If its the first one, then one of THESE should do what you want.

    Thanks to Jack-daniels

You need to replace the Euro cylinder lock with one like this http://www.discountlocks.co.uk/Key-T...#axzz2tP7RS2pi

if you're replacing the cylinder make sure you get one that is as flush with the door as possible on the outside, a pair of mole grips on any part protruding and you can snap them in half, lots of locksmiths now carry a bar that fits over the cylinder and just allows you to snap them in half.

Changing the cylinder will not help, the lock inside your door is known as a single spindle lock, this needs changing to a split spindle and you should be able to reuse the cylinder so you don't have to muck around changing keys or getting more cut.

Try reading this, you might not even need to change the lock, maybe just the spindle, these are about £3.

Can you post a photo of the lock (long silver/gold strip) with the door open and handle lifted up. I should be able to tell if it's split spindle or maybe twin spindle too.

Nightstalker, it depends on what lock he's got at the moment to determine how best to get a nightlatch operation. Can't do much without that pic Olympia

As said that's what's called a profile lock , and there shit , they operate a 4 point locking system inside most PVC door.
what you describe in the OP would suggest one of the bars inside the door has came adrift .
if you can turn the key in the lock freely then it's not the lock .

If you do change the euro cylinder , then make sure you use the new anti snap versions , there is a bbc documentary about how bad they are on you tube if you interested .

Guys, maybe I'm understanding this wrong, but my interpretation is as follows:

Olympia has a door lock, called a lever-lever operation. This means the door is only fully locked when the handles are lifted and the key is turned regardless of whether this happens from the inside or the outside.

What he wants is for the door to be 'semi secured' so that the only way to open the door from the outside would be with a key.

The best way for you to achieve this is with a lock that has twin spindles. This will require you to change the handles to a variant called lever/pad. Your lock might already have twin spindles in which case you only need to change the handles. Maybe the cylinder if the back plate on the new handles is thicker.

If you can post a picture, I can tell you if it is likely to have twin spindles or not. You could also remove the lock and/or handles and actually see for yourself how many spindles you have.
