    Default iPad 3g question

    Howdy,

If someone was practically giving away an iPad 2 (Wifi and 3G) as Faulty because they 'Do not know' the Apple ID, what could this mean?
If it was on a contract and locked/reported stolen for insurance purposes, could it still be used perfectly fine for Wifi only?

    Cheers.

It more than likely means it's been nicked mate if they don't know the original Apple ID as with the latest versions of software it asks you to login using the account used to originally activate the device.

As it's an older device there may be a way around it via jailbreaks etc, but you'd be better off getting one that doesn't have this problem as if it gets updated to a software version that hasn't been torn to pieces then you'd be stuck with a brick.

They are trying to give it away for £120 (iPad 3).. As always if it seems too good to be true..

Blimey that's cheap - it may have the Find Your iPhone / iPad stuff turned on though so may be trackable as soon as it's on wifi anyway.

Definitely sounds like dodgy ground mate!

100% Positive seller on fleabay etc.. blah blah..

I don't even need one! I would like to replace an iPad 1 in the kitchen with a 3 (30 pin connector).
There is one in the BST I am close to buying but I am looking for a bargain as I really do not need it (but want).

There are videos like this out there mate - not sure if it's legit though!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCB2wrC0is8

Actually I just had that playing to the end and although it did get to Springboard no apps launch anyway so it's a pile of shit!

    Thanks to reverend

ok sounds to me like its passcoded and they dont know the apple id to get past lockscreeen and activation then you have 3 options

    1) contact existing apple id owner get them to reset password and remove id from device and icloud
    2) contact apple themselves and comply with the terms for removing the existing ID, proof ownership etc they will then check its valid to remove etc
    3) a hugely expensive service to get it removed 3rd party that will cost more than a working ipad 3 will cost to buy

I thought you could just do a reset ? Never had a 3g one (and no need).

I will let someone else take their chances on it. It's obviously priced correctly.
