    Help Xbox360 RROD

so my xbox 360 has finally got 3 the red light issue. I had it a month after its release so surprised its lasted this long especially with some of the issues my mates have had.

Can anyone advise how complex the DIY fix is? I've seen the kits on ebay pretty cheap, are these good or are there different ones?

    thanks for any advice.

If going the DIY route get a proper TX kit

Your lucky its lasted this long. Would it not be better just for peace of mind to get a slim line. As for the kits im no sure never used 1 always sent mine to m$ for repair. Ive only got 1 fat 360 left the mw2 console id be gutted if that RROD, the disc drive gets stuck now and then anyone know how to sort that.

    Thanks to normanji

My day one release machine lasted a while although the PSU blew just outside of the warranty..
When the RROD did happen I bought a kit but even that only lasted a couple more months before the CPU went.

I remember someone on here was trying to replace it etc.. but in the end I let it go to the 360 graveyard and bought a Slim..

So to back up normanji, get a slim if viable.

I bought a great one from you and it fell off a shelf and broke the disc drive, I ended up sticking it in my wheelie bin after sulking for days.

Damn! I had two back then, the original one had some 'extras' and the one you bought was my on the line machine
I think I had just got an Elite so it would all fit into my set up nicely (anal I know)...

bang it on ebay for £15-20 - console + power brick - sell it as a spares or repairs RROD, keep everything else
get a 4GB slim for £139.99 from amazon or a 250GB for £190 - their are probably better deals out there but gives you an idea

Wow, did not realise the 360 were still so pricey. I am certain I saw some deals on HookersUnicornsKnobheadsDicks for £99 (4Gb version).. will keep an eye open.

Looks like the deal I saw 'recently' was actually November... How time flies..

This has got me thinking now. Mine is sat their downloading the 2 free Games with Gold a month and nothing else. Got to make a decision in April to buy Live again or offload.. Problem is I have invested so much in Arcade titles I simply can not justify giving them up, especially when you cannot even move it on with them.
Might have to start playing it.

Think i'll look at replacing it instead, whats the difference with the slim one, is it just the look of it or does it function differently. looks wise i'm not fussed as its in a rack in the garage so totally out of sight.

I don't know how extras work now but functionally they do exactly the same thing. There is a newer model now too that has the Xbox one design only a lot smaller obviously

Speaking from experience unless you get it repaired properly by someone with a proper reflow kit, any self repair won't last that long.

There were a few members on here that did it, not certain if they still do.

When my lad's first 360 gave up the ghost I bought the 1st tx kit and got another 12 months from it! When it packed up after that I just binned and replaced with another 2nd hand unit, the best extras to go for now are RGH I think, not sure what the situation is with Drive & FW mods because I've been out the loop a bit as of late due to family issues!

You can get the slimline 4GB models for about £75 secondhand at cashconvertors....ok your taking a risk that it could fail after it runs out of its 30 day warranty .....or go for a new one from amazon.

My elite 120gb failed last year and i bought a cheap repair kit off of ebay for less than a tenner and it fixed the issue. For 3 weeks!!! LOL I got my money back from the seller but not my time to strip the thing open and put it all back together again. So depends how much time you have to kill really! That is why I would recommend buying a newer model xbox360 to anyone now.

    hope this help!
