Being spontaneous with a holiday before/after school hols?

I am thinking about being a bit spontaneous and booking 10 days off of work before or after the school hols and hoping a good deal crops up a week or two before that date. I have seen some ridiculously good deals on HUKD so far this year (but I guess there isn't great demand for holidays this time of year) so just wondered if anyone has done the same before?

The dates will be the main criteria and flying from London (unless there is an incredible deal from another UK airport). If anyone has done this before what were your experiences like? I would try and get a group of 4 so there wasn't too much problem deciding on a place.

I happened to see an awesome deal for California on that site earlier but I am hopefully arranging a big group holiday to Orlando next year. Will look for others on there.

Yeah we always book time off and then lastminute it never had a bad one yet, we going around the world next year and going to book it all thru lastminute using their multi-stop http://www.lastminute.com/trips/sear...igId=S72722479

i do this every year, find the best flights around those dates you want to go etc via skycanner sooner the better and then i search hotel deals but tend to use lowcostholidays, travel republic etc.

once you find the cheap flights you can they try lowcost etc for the whole holiday as they usually offer those flights

ive booked malta for a week all inclusive for four , 4star hotel for £800 in holiday season this year !
Oct last year booked for end of october (Still winter sun season 25-30 degrees ) this way and had 10 days sharm eygpt 5 star all inc last year for £1200 also for four people

key is finding the cheaper flights first i find, mid week etc etc

Nice, I will aim to fly on a Thursday to save on flights and minimise missed work days. Just need to get a few mates on board, pick a time to book off of work and pray that a decent holiday comes up between now and then
