Hi, I’m Bob (Robert) but please for the love of god call me Bob, (sorry this is a long post)
I currently live in the North East of England and I am currently unemployed but my business area is Computer and Digital Forensics. I have been looking for a well-established site for a while now as many of the other sites I frequent end up with one click wonders or a small core user group posting and they get very territorial if you answer questions in there subject domain, offer alternatives or disagree with them (politely of course). This site seems to have a friendly but yet professional approach and on the face of it a multitude of users with from different professions, skill sets, opinions and specialisms.
I am a moderate poster and will only post if I’m sure that the reply is correct and spend time researching my responses before posting them. I take criticism well and if i oppose someone’s viewpoint i will always offer a reason to why (I believe a forum should work as though you’re talking to your friend, co-worker or family member) so a great level of politeness and humility should be undertaken at all times.
I am not a programmer, I can read, understand and even write basic level code but its limited to web scripts, console (Linux based scripts), C, C#, C++, Assembler. I also can read and write algorithms and pseudo code... I am an old timer so i can use command line and console (not just point and click like some people prefer)... I have used every edition of windows (including servers) from windows for Workgroups 3.0 up to windows 8 and server 2012 Essentials and R2 at an administrator level. I have used many different distributions and versions of UNIX and Linux based OS IBM, Ubuntu, Backtrack, Kali etc. I am also familiar to apple OS but only to investigate not to the same level as I am with Windows and Linux.
I am a research based person (to be honest I am a sponge)... I spend my time reading even the smallest of posts just to see what others are posting, you could categorise me as an online people watcher... I enjoy reading research and white papers as well as current legal case law and government legislation (in all technology fields not just digital forensics).
I have experience with virtualisation (server, workstation, mobile and emulation) using Hyper-V, Virtual Box VMware.
I have knowledge of FTK, Encase, XRY, Backtrack, and many other pieces of software which investigate cryptography, steganography and other security based areas. I am a serial (often unconsciously) social engineer...
Thank you for letting me introduce myself and I hope that this is the start of a good relationship.
Thanks
Bob
