take itv digital for example I know for certain that the hack for that was out for months before it hit the wild, so it DOES happen. take also for example the original wii drive hack with the little pic chip - again that hack was available for months before it was released. so again it can happen.
someone might have the key to everything but not sharing. people like to think they know or are part of a secret inner circle but its all bullshit. the people in the know and involved will always be the ones to get the things running first. joe public is always last. and this sky hack is just th ereason - too many fucking idiots from Bradford trying to rip people off on ebay selling skyboxes and gifts then after 45 days fucking them off

The method for cable was posted as it got done..although the posts were cryptic i assume to stop most people setting up servers. Its kept quiet as you know but it was done almost right as the change happened.

The lack of posts now is prob more to do with not wanting it to go the way sky cs did

Is it traceable though due to the cable network being the way it is?

I cannot say about cable but I know sky boxes are only receivers, it is possible for the network provider to monitor your traffic though

That's what I figured. I don't really see how they can go unnoticed on the cable network unless it works like the old cable modems when people traded Macs.

I'm not going to try it providing I can watch Sky News on FTA. I'm just being nosey.

The real cable boxes have a return path. The CS cable sharing is still using a satellite box but with a cable tuner.

    No return path no show.

but the network providers can see the sites you use for cs, such as your line provider etc.

As the cable card is in a server and like kroner said the boxs used dm500c etc have no return path cant see how it could be tracked.
Ive had a box about since they were done its never had an issue.

Every feed that comes from the cab that then feeds a house has all the channels on it. It's only the box and card that opens them up. The return path then talks back to the headend etc feeding back information of what package etc.

The Dreambox/Blade plugged in to the vermin feed will pick up the channel listings etc but won't decrypt the channels unless the server is connected.

There's no way traceable unless the box is talking back, which none of the sat receivers do.

There's no magic tool like once believed either that they can a tech can go to a cab and see if a box is on-line. The only method they have is cab cleaning, which is checking each cable that marries to a house, if the house is connected and doesn't have a sub they'll disconnect it.

I wonder if our friends in china will look at solving the "pair" issue, they have made a lot of money from folks buying their boxes
maybe it will take this back to the hobbist's who first helped us along this road, before these ebay guys opened up the arena to the general public at large
if pairing chips have to be used, it will go back to friends only sharing
