I'm also wanting this game but waiting for the price of the WiiU to drop further.

Tell me, have they killed that god awful blue spikey shell? The most pointless perk in the game.

The blue shell is still there, but you can now destroy it with one of the new weapons. Or you can boost away from it with a mushroom!

I had a few goes on this last night and really enjoyed it - not overly keen on the big gamepad so I have just ordered one of the pro controllers which should be better - looking forward to getting home and doing some more later

Have some persistence with the pad, It takes a while to get used to it. I play most of the games on the Pad, I don't bother switching the tv on.

Mario Kart 8 getting Mercedes car DLC

Free to download in Japan this summer, European details soon.

By Tom Phillips Published Thursday, 29 May 2014
In a surprising piece of product placement, Nintendo has teamed up with Mercedes to offer a free DLC car in Mario Kart 8.

The in-game vehicle, a Mercedes GLA, will be freely available to download in Japan this summer.
When asked whether the DLC would arrive in Europe, Nintendo UK sounded positive.
"The announcement this time was made by Mercedes-Benz Japan regarding their collaboration in Japan with NCL," a spokesperson told Eurogamer.
"As for the information relating to the distribution of the GLA kart for MK8 outside Japan, we will be able to announce in the near future."
The deal also sees Mario appear in a new live-action Mercedes advert, Famitsu revealed (thanks, NeoGAF).
Mercedes' website for the promotion features classic NES Super Mario Bros. visuals, with Mario in a Mercedes squashing Goombas.
The upcoming DLC isn't the first time that Nintendo has featured other brands in its first-party games - Pikmin 2 was full of liscensed items for players to find, while Wave Race 64 featured Kawasaki jet skis.

But the inclusion is a bit more blatant than most of these deals - and may stem from Nintendo's recent decision to license out its character IP to a greater extent.

    Thanks to raelmadrid

Nintendo has unleashed the official website for Mario Kart TV, a web-based replay hub for Mario Kart 8, which launched today. Players can watch and share races uploaded from the Mario Kart 8's TV mode at MarioKart.tv.The site allows players to filter content based on character, courses and race types. Find an especially devious red shell-laden match? Replays can be shared via Facebook and Twitter. Connecting to the site with a console's Nintendo Network account allows players to view their own uploaded content. While no mobile app was released for the replay viewer, GameSpot reports the site's videos are optimized for smartphones and tablets.

Mario Kart 8 "is a solid extra lap on a series with a great foundation." As part of a promotion for the game's release, Nintendo is offering players a free digital copy from a selection of Wii U titles for a limited time.

Anyone waiting for this from any of the hut group companies will probably get it tomorrow. I've just seen an email to say they were left behind at one of the national hubs last night by mistake.

With most games the gamepad is fine and works great with the screen but I just find it a bit wrong for Mario Kart - hopefully my pro controller will be here tomorrow so can try that out

Prezzy, my preorder didn't turn up so I went down to my local sainsbury's to get it. Whilst there, I noticed they had 3rd party Wii controllers in stock for £15 - i bought a couple, and they seem VERY decent for the price.

    Thanks to Ganty

Thanks but ergh that would mean going into Accrington . . . .

Think I would rather just buy the pro pads at £40

I'm so disappointed that in 2 player you can't have one exclusively on the tv and other player just on the pad, seems daft split-screening both displays.

I guess mirroring the display from the TV to pad has minimal effect on the CPU, where as 2 full screen displays would probably have performance trade offs. Does seem like an ideal situation missed out on though.
