Help Netflix/XBMC droppingout of fullscreen - please help !

    Hi all,

I have a dual core AMD based PC running Windows 8 which I'm using as a media player.

We only basically use it for two things. XBMC and Netflix.

The problem we have is both XBMC and Netflix keep randomly dropping out of full screen. XBMC dumps right back to the desktop (but keeps playing the sound) and netflix playing in a Chrome browser drops out of full screen, giving annoying bars top and bottom.

I have mostly missus proofed this system, she can operate it just fine using an airmouse type app on her iPhone but this is becoming annoying. It happens about twice an hour but I'm stumped if I can figure out what's causing it.

How can I find out and stop whatever is doing it ?

    Thanks

    malty.

Teaching granny to suck eggs but have you thought about turning off all security and seeing if it does it? Reinstalling the browser and the final straw XBMC

There's no security on there. I've disabled everything that isn't directly involved with being used for media playback.

It's a shame because otherwise it does everything we need it to.

Could it not be the app sending some sort of signal giving the same effect as moving the mouse and causing the browser bars to appear?

If you haven't done so already try disabling Windows update and any other software that might try to automatically update (Video drivers, Java, Chrome etc.).

Windows update is off and moving the mouse doesn't cause the same effect. That just causes the gui to come up.

Sometimes there's a rotating blue circle like what used to be an hourglass at the pointer just after it's happened.

Thanks for the ideas guys, keep them coming.

I'll check the permissions on silver light when I get home hopefully that will fix that. Sadly it doesn't explain the xbmc issue though.

    Thanks for the pointer.

Don't know if it's related, but my xbmc (win 7 x64) will shrink to taskbar 9/10 times on startup..I disabled auto library update at start and it fixed it. I now annoyingly have to manually scan periodically.

All these silly things, one will be correct....

With Chrome dropping from full screen, do you mean from F11? Have you 'Allowed Netflix in Fullscreen' - but my monies on the Silverlight issue.

XBMC would usually give you a clue in it's Log to why it's dropping out, but it either sounds like a GPU Driver problem or something running in the background is stealing focus from it.

We put Netflix into fullscreen by clicking the fullscreen gadget on the netflix player thingy same as on youtube when we start playing something. It opens into fullscreen and plays just fine but at some point always drops out so that you can see the bar/tool tray etc.

Stealing focus sounds more feasible but I can't figure out what it is.

Did you at one time project and extend the screen or duplicate and it's still enabled?

No, it's only ever been connected to a single display. I have however just disabled splash top streamer in case that's causing it.
