I need a battery for my mac, it's swelling badly and does not hold a charge. It seems a minefield and i don't want to pay Apple £150

Depends on how important your Macbook is to you. Chance the Minefield or take it to Apple.
Also take into consideration it might not be just the batteries fault.
The cheaper option is full of risks . I would never buy a cheap knock off battery (or charger).
Seen shit go bad, fast, too many times.
I've got exactly the same - the battery lid wont even shut. Choice of apple rip off or £30 ish tbh at that price and age of laptop 08/09 model I'm going to risk the cheapo battery especially as you can't run the laptop without a battery so dont really care about battery life etc.
I actually bought one and I'm very happy. Nu power is the make. £80 delivered. Lasts ages. Here is the Link:

How long ago did you buy that, and is it still performing as expected? My MBP's 4 years old now, battery's on 472 cycles, down to 2471mAh and less than 90 minutes battery life (I remember getting ten hours) and Mavericks is whining at me to "Service Battery".

For every decent mod there's always one arrogant cunt who lets power get to his head, isn't there?
