    Default What's happened here?

I've had this problem a little while now (fnar! fnar!) When i click to download a file i get the usual options. If i click 'save as' then i can download the file to a folder or the desktop. But if i click 'save' or 'open', nothing happens! Also, website logins and passwords, when i visit a site, some are stored and yet some aren't

    It used to work!!

    Vista 64bit - any ideas?

I have reset the browser (IE9), but aside from getting a new browser (which i don't really want to do) then i am stuck for fixes!

Remove Vista and change for Windows 7 or 8.1 would be my recommendation.

Second the opinion of getting rid of vista

it has to be the worst OS that Microsoft produced

    stick windows 7 on

I forgot how poor vista was, go for win 7 not windows 8, 8.1 if updating is an option ! They have forced me down the mac path with their latest OS attempt !! Good for kids and granny's only IMO

Windows 8.1 is by far the fastest OS on lower powered machines so you will see the biggest performance increase.

You can set 8.1 to boot straight to the desktop if that is your preferred method. I use 8.1 on all my machines and now they are all configured how I want them it is a good OS. When I go on people Win 7 machines now it just seems so old.

Ran all the spyware/visrus checkers (i have ESET, Malware Bytes etc all installed), but zero results.

I would prefer to solve this problem, but it looks like most of you are suggesting an upgrade to Windows 7. So my next question is, where is the cheapest?!

I am eligible for Microsoft Home use, but they seem to be pushing Windows 8, more than 7 and i am also a registed Uni student.

    Ta!

Same here, windows 7 pushed me over the edge when it came out.. constantly removing tools, renaming and moving things on the OS.. crashing.. slow the list is endless.. I left and went to Ubuntu many year a go. Trialed that and decided to buy a mac. never looked back since..

Windows 8 make me chuckle somewhat! Vtech os springs to mind!

    Thanks to Kalipo

Any home user deal that MS is running will be for windows 8 and because,it,is a retail version there will be no downgrade / previous version rights.

ive heard on the grapevine that MS might be offering windows 9 free for all windows 8 users when it comes out next year.

Dont like the route windows has taken with 8 can't see them going back either

PC has just blown up so instead of rebuilding I'm gonna get myself a nice new imac

    Thanks to fanni

If your going to get windows 7 then you don't need to pay for it. Unless you want to that is.

I and many people I know have been using Windows Loader for years. Just download whatever version of windows 7 you want (may as well be ultimate unless your aiming to keep the install as small as possible), skip the part where it wants a serial number then run windows loader when done. Not sure how it works but it makes windows genuine meaning you get all the features, future updates and it runs flawlessly.

    Thanks to Jokah
