    Help Netgear XE104 Homeplugs

    Hey Guys,

Looking for a bit of help! Not sure if this is the right section?

I have been running my home network using Netgear XE104 powerline homeplugs without problem, for a few years now and have upgraded my PC from Windows XP upto and eventually Windows 8. Now I have just purchased a couple more to extend the network, but I cannot get them paired upto my original set. I have tried installing the powerline encryption utility program but it doesnt detect any of the homeplugs. I have read online that netgear no longer support this product and was wondering if any of you networking genius' mighthave an idea on how to sort this?

    THanks in advance

Might be a daft question but have you tried pairing when plugge into a socket right next to another that is already working on your network?

    Thanks to flipper321

Usually they have buttons on them to aid pairing. Download the manual from the Netgear website and it should have instructions for your specific adapters

Have you purchased the exact same models as your originals?

I assumed they were the same model but if they aren't then you might find the PC software won't work and the manuals often don't tell you how to connect different models. Assuming they use the same homeplug standard they should work together as long as they are on the same circuit but you will need to use trial and error to connect them. As mentioned above plug them in next to each other and try getting the manuals for both devices and work out how to pair them using their buttons.

    Thanks to evilsatan

They are the same model xe104, I have tried the manual which tells me to use the software. The software is not detecting the plugs and the software is not supported by windows 8. There are no buttons on the plugs. I will try plugging them into the same socket and see if that works. Thanks everyone

Hey guys, just to keep you informed, I managed to get the plugs working! The problem I had was win 8 doesn't do compatibility back as far as win xp sp2. So I used a friends laptop that is running win 7 and it worked.

thanks for all the comments I really appreciate it!
