Help Probate: Anyone done it themselves?

Long story short: Grandmother has shaken off her mortal coil. Left a will, but needs to go through probate.
Having looked at the relevant documents, my thoughts are this should be done through a solicitor, so just wondered if any DF'er had been through the process themselves.

    Cheers.

Did this when my mother died last year.
You will need to have solicitor to apply for the application. Had to have 2 oaths sworn, first on application, second to confirm to achieve probate. Drawn out process, especially at Birmingham probate office. Took ages.

Did the paperwork for mrs who was executor on her uncles and didn't think it was too bad, have to get the oath sworn which cost £5 off memory. The hardest bit has been getting the utility companies to issue the correct closing invoices - useless cunts.

Do you have details of gifts made in last few years, is there any IHT applicable?

    Thanks to hoponbaby

I've just been granted probate for my mum's estate. All paperwork was done between myself, my brother and uncle. We are hardly legal eagles and got through it OK. Oath cost me £7 at a local solicitor but as there were 3 executers we all had to arrange to sign locally as we live 100 miles apart. The hardest thing we found was getting all my mums paperwork in order as she wasn't the most organised of people.

    Thanks to beerman

Hmmm, I don't think IHT applies and as she's been in a nursing home for several years, there's no utility bills either.
As to gifts, I doubt it. Tight old cow wouldn't even share here Murray mints

I'd just hate to start the process and find it's beyond me/mum and find it has to be started over.

    Appreciate all the advice ^^^
