3rd time writing due to dodgy ios8

starbucks is shite, I use hasbean.co.uk you can choose green beans, whole, or a varioty of grinds - loads of beans to choose from too.

I use an aeropress or cafetière or nespresso machine at home depending on situation work is drip or cafetière.

Has as anyone tried coldbrew? Big kick think espresso and v smooth flavour, does use a lot of coffee but depending on how you drink it you use it up - we were drinking neet at work so went quickly. Has totally different taste to the same coffee brewed.

I'm looking at getting a Aeropress first, then maybe one of those Hario things just to experiment, I'll have to drop a few hints to Santa for anything more expensive.

Honestly, you'll have a hard time finding something that makes a better coffee than an aeropress. I was blown away when I tried the one I bought for my mum after using two scoops in a full aeropress with lavazza red pre ground. Just make sure you warm the cups first

Yup the aeropress for a couple of bits of plastic makes an amazing coffee. So this is what we were using for coldbrew https://toddycafe.com/cold-brew/why-toddy-cold-brew - annoyingly enough it's almost as expensive in gbp s usd.

I have done cold brew coffee, I just steep coffee in cold water in a jug with cling film over it for 12+ hours then filter through normal paper coffee filters

not being a coffee snob or anything but I'd go for something where you can guarantee they've been roasted/ground recently

    Is it these ones? http://www.coffeejudge.co.uk/ikea-ka...t-coffee-beans

It's very easy when reviewing anything IKEA to harp on about flat packs and chipboard, and to be honest I was expecting the contents of this packet to be the crumbled up chipboard corners of all those returned PAX wardrobes with damaged doors. Especially as this coffee is cheap. I mean sub £2 a pack. So this is going to be as depressing as a wet thursday night trawling round 10 hectares of warehouse only to buy a set of tea lights. But hang on just a tiny moment! When you open this one up you can tell immediately it's not going to be that bad. In fact, it's not bad at all.... it's bloody great! We've had far worse coffee from so-called professional roasters. Maybe this pack was just super-fresh which gave it an unfair advantage. Who knows. It's dark and strong, the beans are not over roasted and burnt like some dark roasts, and it's a doddle to make. 4 spoons, 5 spoons, 6 spoons... they've all come out pretty consistently. So if you're a coffee novice, and a bit of a cheapskate, get down there and pick yourself up a few for the cupboard. And, get this, you don't even need to go in the shop! They sell them out by the fast food counter so you can nip in for the kill and be out in seconds without having to lower yourself to fight you way past a line of punters buying ten thousand component kitchen parts. Result! It's a whopping 8/10 from Judge Nooge.
Actually seem pretty good for the £ - may pick some up for doing cold brew cofee with if I can bring myself to ever visit ikea again urgh

    Thanks to prezzy

Fair enough - still be wary of their rotation of stock and you don't get something that's a year old.

Yea for fresh coffee I buy from a roaster where I know what date the beans have been roasted on - starts to lose it's taste pretty quickly when stored.

Decided to try an Aeropress thanks to this thread it is indeed an excellent bit of kit - got some experimenting to do with different coffees/grinds amount of water and temperatures but first impressions are 10 out of 10

My Aeropress arrived on friday and just got time to make a post, and fuck me its great. The french press is useless.

Not only is it faster, the coffee is smoother and theres no chance of sludge or stray grinds in your coffee. Plus, its so easy to clean, no loose grinds in the sink and the press itself virtually cleans itself when you use it.

Grabbed 3 250g bags of beans from the seller too, who appears to be an independent roaster, going by the name of 8Bit Cafe, although I have forgotten what I ordered and the bag info is written in Chinese so its gonna be 'pot' luck.

Thanks coffee wankers of DF, you have steered me well.

Don't think anyone's mentioned this but a lot of people use an inverted method with the aeropress, I just tried it and I think its a better brew

Ooh, the beans I got are (translated via google):

Nicaragua COE eighth Manor Kaddoura water clear emerald green organic boutique coffee beans

Kenny Amasai African warrior AA TOP (MASAI) beans / powder freshly baked sweet and sour berries

    and

Guatemala and Antigua coffee beans and sweet type Azotea Manor SHB freshly baked chocolate.

For anyone in London there's a coffee shop at Old Street called ozone that roasts its own - you can see down the stairs to the roaster. Smells amazing when they're roasting.

they also sell beans ground to your requirement size and brewing equipment.

I use my Gaggia Classic. Never fails me and I always get a good espresso from it and frother/steamer works great.

Anyone been tempted by coldbrew yet? Worst comes to worst you just top it up with hot water for an americano or nuke it for an espresso sans crema
