Saw this Bellend last at 4am in the morning and wanted to write a cuntish reply. What a leechin fuck. Surely there must be another way to get rid of people like this? I've always thought 10 CONSTRUCTIVE posts within a 2 week period would filter out those who can't be arsed sticking around and being patient for 2 weeks to be part of a great community. After which time there would be an incremental release of the forums content to the new user. Make it so that they have to be patient to be a part of

A limit of say 6 or 8 posts in the first 24hours would prevent them getting whatever they want to leech within a few mins of them joining and post boosting to get it - obviously the mods can't be around 24/7 to spot things immediately and that would allow time to spot the clowns and ban them before they get what they came for

I don't think they automatically get access even after the 10 posts.

We've pushed the filters as far as we feel comfortable or at least BB did in consultation with all staff while he was still at the Helm....
    If at first you don't succeed.....redefine success. . . .

Spammers and lechers will always be a part of a forum regardless of what measures are put in place to try and prevent them joining or posting.

Me I would restrict the best sections viewable to new members until they have reached at least 50 posts this would show the member is a member that's willing to help others and DF and if they want to jump the cue to speak there is always the VIP route.

Make new members when they join only see one section (The welcome section) and once they have posted a quality post they have to manually verified to continue from there, it would stop spammers and lechers full stop but means lots more work for admin.

The filters are in place that they need 15 posts not 10 to be able to see links and attachments, this is not an automatic opening and they then have to wait 24 hours before they are moved to an access group so no one who post spams will ever get access, what you suggest is not a lot of extra work for admin it is simply a change of settings BUT was not considered as it would make the forum completely disappear from Google and you would gain no new members.

As blaggard said we went through the possible routes and decided the way it is being done now is the best way possible although not ideal there really isn't a sure fire way of doing it without a total lockdown, it does mean even though they get a message on joining that post spamming is futile and will not gain them access you still get post spamming which although irritating it gets cleaned up fairly rapidly, I personally don't see any better way of doing it or any other forums using a better method that works and if I had I would have implemented it.

Its so annoying for outsiders to try and leach the forum and run.

    Only posting as a suggestion.

Your not that old that you don't know about reading your welcome note. You got this message when you first registered.
why not read it. It has a lot of useful information in.

Not really good etiquette to drag up old posts. Make an intro about yourself in the appropriate section for starters. Posting here only makes your first post look dumb
