Default Something about to happen with channels ??

Just received today via email loads of offers from providers for 20%/30% e.t.c off if you take a cline this weekend.
Offer ending end of tomorrow blah, blah.

Not previously received much in the way of emails from these guys so wondered if it was a sign of something about to go down, and they all trying to cash in on people signing up for 3+ months e.t.c

Purely speculation just wondered if someone in the know might have heard some rumours ;-)

People have been talking about the end of cardsharing ever since I discovered it, nearly 10 years ago....!

It is still going, in a sense. Although it died to me last year for the most prominent provider, as I only watch in HD. If I am so inclined, I can still get them through a coax in the ground. So.... As smug as people may be. The sports channels are still available for free in HD, from various sources.

The end of CS will just help grow IPTV. IPTV uptake will just help grow SKY into your house via the internet.

The uptake of foreign satellite packages will grow a package from the EPL, where UK subscribers get a choice of every match. However, I see these being sold in packages and picked up by different suppliers. At the moment you have BT, Virgin and SKY. Others will start to step in. I think Google and Amazon are an obvious shout. But I can see Al Jazeera looking to get a foot in too.

The TV future looks strong. And there will always be a free option.

I'm happy whatever happens. Almost all TV is downloaded and shared via plex. $ky gets very little air time at mine apart from the kids really and that is getting less.

Lots more options now even if you want to part with cash. The Cable vs Satellite monopoly is finished imho.

My only gripe with paying for TV is the whole TV license fiasco. Don't want BBC so don't want to be forced to pay for the shite they produce.

    How long ago?

There are 3 types of people in the world - those who make things happen, those who watch things happen; and those who wondered what happened.

    Well....

It was before my boy was born and he's 8 this year.

I'm going to say it was 2006 when I discovered CS. I wasn't really posting here at the time, only occasionally, I discovered it through techwatch. So... Coming up to 8 years.

Believe that, or don't...! I'm not fussed.

Saying that makes you realise how long it has been going, my nipper is 9 and I had a sat dbox2 long before the mrs was even pregnant so must be over 10 years since first played with cs.

There's always going to be some big worry coming up, like the Ryder Cup, Lions Tour, start of the soccer season that will mean people will start the scaremongering. The fact is $ky (and other providers) will continue to battle CS and will use technology when they can and go after resellers when they can, don't be under any illusion that they are "happy" for people stealing their product.

In regards to people downloading stuff to watch, TV is ahead of the game on this and use product placement for a lot of their shows now as an revenue source.

I'd imagine a lot of people are offering discounts now is cause they are skint after Christmas and just want some cash to get them to pay day
