I do use one just to help protect me a little.
don't get me wrong I use my bank card as well for trusted sites when at home, even that is linked to an empty account
I transfer money into.
I use the prepay for stuff linked to my phone/tablet/lappy in case I lose them or they are stolen.

Hi hilljd00,
if you are thinking about security and limiting your loss in case of credit card abuse, a prepaid credit card may help. However, there are many banks which offer "secure credit card numbers". That is, if you apply for a "standard" revolving credit card, you can usually (but that depends on the issuing bank!) log on online, generate a "virtual" credit card number and use that online. The advantage is, that this virtual number can only be used once, so the fraud limit is virtually zero. In addition, you have a set credit card limit that you may use at your discretion if needed. This is not the case with a prepaid card.
So to make it short: I would go for a regular card. If you are not sure which card to get (MC/VISA/AX/DC...) let me know. I am not that familiar with UK Banks, even though I am a Barclays customer (for credit cards). Just ask and I am glad to help :-)
Cheers
