Was using rasplex for a while on my original Pi. I found OpenElec to be smoother and to be honest for the price of a NowTV - if all you want is Plex, I wouldn't faff around with the Pi

Rasplex on the RP1 was OK, but on the 2 it is way better and once you have it set up the way you want that's it job done. Openelec is very good also as you say, especially with all the add-ons you can get and I love the way that the HDMI-CEC works brilliantly.

As for faffing around - that's half the fun isn't it? Also, once you have the Rasplex set up, you can pop out the SD card and sort out another with emulators etc. - far more versatile than a NowTV box.

Horses for courses and all that.

    Tried this yesterday and wow!!
Installed to the micro sd on a few minutes and bam it booted straight away.
No pissing about just signed into my plex account and all my shares are there and so are the DF plex members

it boots instantly and so responsive too.
i have it connected to the tv's USB port and as soon as I switch on the TV the Pi is ready.

not had any issues with it at all so far and compared to my now tv boxes it loads faster and the picture is just as good if not better.

Now all I need is a nowtv plugin

My experience with plex on the first RPi was a bit ropey. I stuck to using OpenElec on it but that wasn't great either. I'd say the upgraded specs of the RPi2 might make those things better, but I'd still plump with a dedicated box for plex client. I used a now tv box for ages and it was great. Now I use an Apple TV 3 with plex connect and it's perfect. The UI isn't as good as the now tv/roku client as it's not a dedicated app, but it's plenty good enough

Get the AAAStream and Genesis plugins - I think you might like them.

I'm looking at a RPi2 after arriving late to the ATV2 scene where I'm finding streams being very unstable on Genesis, now that the xbmc support has stopped. Can anyone recommend a set-up which will run just like the ATV used to.

Just ordered my Pi2, will be playing around with all the various recommendation here and see which fits me best.

Should be fun, first Pi I have ever brought, has any one come across anything new and exciting since these posts, that is worth trying on my new toy?

There's loads of boards out there - Intel eddison, spark core/photon, vocore, beagleboard. Depends what you want, spark comes with wifi onboard but not that powerful (good for home automation perhaps), beaglebone black had more grunt than the original raspberry Pi but not as good on the graphics side. Have a look over at hackster.io and any relevant forums for each product.
