Sorry for going quiet on this, been busy for the last few weeks with a build for a adult male in wales.
When I first got in to doing these I wanted to help kids as that is where the least help seems to be with the NHS and also most Adults have adapted to life with what they have.

Then I saw a post on e-NABLE with what the UK NHS issued a guy with in 2009 and apparently what they are issuing now is basically the same with a skin coloured covering.

I was so disgusted with this I have been working to make him a new device, he is a CAD engineer by trade so helped modify his own palm component I printed for him (he has a small wrist) His device is an insult, nothing more than part of a chemistry set bolted to a cuff that actually covers his residual palm and immobilises what wrist he has.

His device might take more work to get it working for him but if you never try, you will never know.

What is more amazing is he showed his boss at work about this and his company are giving him £1000 to buy his own printer and he wants to get in to making devices for other people as well !

In other work I have also been doing some R&D to eliminate knots needed for the tendons and think I have a solution, to make it simpler to build.
On the 3D scanner front I think I have worked out how to eliminate the 3/4 projectors used in the original project and replace it with £20 of laser pointers and len's :-)

Is this fused deposition modeling? I was thinking wherever you get the polymer from do you want some support/funds for getting some more in? Or whatever the printing method do you need some funds for the material?

I picked up a LOAD of plastic for my printer from bankrupt stock so have enough to last a good while.
Part of the reason for suggesting people might want to just make a donation is I have Raspberry Pi's, memory cards, power supplies, cheap laser pointers etc coming from quite a few places.
Once this settles down I am going to count it all up and work out whats missing !

Latest device delivered and the recipiants company have donated him £1000 so he can get a 3D printer and join in making hands for other people, he well be able to fix / modify his own as well !

Also got my crimp tools and cable tested and looks like a simple / better solution instead of the knots to make the fingers work.
When I ordered the kit I put a note on about what I wanted to use the cable and crimps for; the company refunded me the costs and provided it all for free; I was very chuffed !
