Advice - Internal Plaster Repair to Solid Brickwork external wall

Last night the curtain rail fell when closing the curtains.

I have had a look online, but my searches or how I word it is not helping me find a solution and method.

So, as the title.
Solid Brickwork House (no cavity)
Internal repair needed to the external wall.
Large plaster hole right back to brickwork. Its about half an inch deep.

I want a guide on materials and how to start and complete. Is it ok to just build up the plater? Or do I need to look at a lime mortar and then a thinner plaster finish?

Is the plaster around the hole sound ? (tap it with a knuckle, if it sounds hollow, then it's probably blown)
Any evidence of damp/discolouration ? - Any smell?
If it's only half an inch deep, how wide is it? -smallish, like the size of a jam jar lid, or bigger?
Why did it fall off - was it supporting the weight of the pole and curtains?

Polyfilla's one way to go. If it's only half inch deep, you can fill it in one go. Just leave it everso slightly proud of the hole, then take it back when it's dry with a block and some fine sandpaper. Job done.

If plastering properly you'd probably want to do it in a couple of passes but this will be tricky with a hole. As above, polyfilla - I put a hole in some plasterboard and fixed it by getting a piece of board glued to the back of the plasterboard then filling with polyfilla, it must have been about half an inch deep. As above, fill it so its proud and sand back. Never had any problems with with the fix (must be 10 years old now, at parents house and they've changed the wallpaper since the fix too).

Plaster live all around to some considerable distance.
No damp
Appears to be the element holding up that curtain/rail. The screws and rawl plugs don't stretch to solid external brickwork beyond.
Since been recommended against fillers on a solid external wall.

Due to new found size/scope, might look to get someone in, but if reasonably feasible would rather avoid.

But I want a decent, level and smooth finish. This element meets the ceiling, so I dont have a guide to use a straight edge.

Good idea, will post pic. Plaster loose from one end of wall up high, all the way to the other.
