Default Hong Kong in November - things to do?

Just booked some flights to Hong Kong in November to visit a couple of mates over there. I'm not sure where they are based but we have 12 days so will travel a bit.

So far we will probably spend a weekend in Macau for my birthday, and might visit a theme park. Does anyone recommend anything else to do and see? The national parks look pretty awesome!

    Cheers

We have an office in Hong Kong, but I have not been their for sometime.

My college has been out their for 3 months and she is returning next week to London, I will ask her for some places to go and let you know.

she will most likely recommend her friends bar at the very least

Usual stuff I can think of... Victoria Peaks, cable car thing, slow boats, trip round a fish market...

High humidity there. Aircon is your friend! lol

I don't cope well with humidity... I just looked for the temperature and it seems in November the humidity is pretty low and 19-24 degrees which suits me fine as I melt in warmer weather!

I would love to go to hk.
bit nervous of foreign countries apart from usa tbh.
is it safe for a family visiting and how do you manage food wise? Is it the same as UK or America or is it all food based around noodles or fish?

im not one for strange foods. my folks live in portugal and all I can eat there is chicken!
Would love to see some random pictures of hk not just professional ones.

Sorry I have hijacked the thread lol

It's nothing like the UK. It is China! Aside from a few similarities left over from when the UK owned it, it's actually one place I've been where I have felt the most 'alien' being there. Russia being another. Everything is different. If u get lost u are screwed lol

If anyone here did want to go this year, I have been looking at flights since the end of last year to go this November and they were about £350 with 1 stop but they all sold out by March. Was looking last week and Cathay Pacific had direct flights for £430 which we were going to order as we have free accommodation when we get there (although we plan to travel so will stay at airbnbs or something like that too) but yesterday I got direct flights on Virgin Atlantic for about £300! Used zuji.com.hk and paid in HKD, when searching it looks like Virgin are more expensive but the taxes are much lower so they are cheaper than Swiss and its a Dreamliner.

Also, does anyone have any advice for flying with Virgin? I signed up for the flyers club but I've only ever flown a handful of times and other than Mexico that was all to Europe so don't know the tricks and tips...

    Cheers

don't say that while you are in HK! many of the locals want very little to do with the mainland that now governs them. To be honest, my experience of HK and now my life in China is that the similarities are pretty slim. English is commonly spoken by the younger generations and signs are far more likely to have English on them than they would here. Food is a different world too, as most of the dishes we have in our chinese restaurants in Blighty are using menus from HK, rather than the mainland.

I spent a week in HK, a few days in Macao and I was disappointed, I was expecting it to be more exotic than it actually is, I'd love to go back and get a second opinion though, before the Chinese government fucks it over completely.

Catch the MTR into China, up to Shenzen and go to the Electronics markets at Huaqiangbei - biggest, cheapest electronics market in the world.

    Hi
Last time I went I bought Visa at the border train station for 450RMB (£48)- this lasted for I think 3 months and looks cool in your passport.

Just booked to go to Macau for a week in September got an executive suite at the Sheraton which looks pretty good / more modern than most of the other places available.

Rather stupidly agreed to do the worlds tallest bungee jump at Macau Tower - considering I am shit scared of heights not my best decision ever... think I will be dropping a couple of diazepam before that.

Macau looks awesome though well looking forward to letting loose there

We are trying to get a suite there too, it seems to be the place to stay, my friend whose family are all from China stayed there and my mates who have moved out there to teach stay there too. Hadnt seen the bungee jump though, I have developed vertigo in recent years but might push myself to do it...

Flights return from Heathrow paid £750 - executive Suite at the Sheraton for 7 nights is £875 - flights from Leeds to Heathrow return £150 - VIP lounge at Heathrow £55
VIP lounge in Beijing not sure as the site was fucked when trying to book but 3 hours there worth the £imo

Me and my mate going so that for each of us - should be fun - Macau looks awesome - new vegas (it turns over more then x5 vegas in gambling revenue), not sure about the drug scene but whores and gambling are legal....

Also have the Robuchon Au Dome restaurant booked - http://www.grandlisboahotel.com/dini...hon_au_Dome-en
Robuchon vegas is probs the best restaurant I have eaten at (cost $800 a head) so will be interesting to see what the Chinese / Macau version has to offer

And have 'The Eight' booked which looks real good apart from the shark fin stuff - http://www.grandlisboa.com/en/food_a...ndex_id_1.html

Unfortunately I am stuck to doing the bungee jump they also have a grand prix museum I may go and check out and a go-kart track.

May get a boat over to Hong Kong is only an hour away but I doubt it, will probs just spend my week getting hammered in Macau.

Awesome mate, will wait to hear your tips when you get back! The hotel is a lot cheaper than I thought it was, we will just be there for a long weekend and I thought that was a grand for the suite but I must have got it wrong.

Will follow your tips on the restaurant etc. and will wait to hear how you get on with the party scene, perhaps you can lmk best places to go etc

I got lucky with flights, return with Virgin for £400 I think but November is the cheap month to go for some reason, they rocket in price in December. And AMEX sent me some lounge passes which as you say looks well worh going to for free food, drink etc
