    Hi
well, if it wasn't for AP help above I would have lost the plot....I was pushing F8 like a a madman all day, the link to HP site doesnt work and they require you to sign up to everything to get nothing.
The break helped me calm down but without AP telling me where the switch was and what to do the server may have ended up from upstairs window into pond.
    cheers

Can anyone recomend a wireless adapter for a N54l? I need to move my server from the front room as its got slightly louder over the years ive had mine. Ill be streaming to kodi from it so still need decent speeds but recon as long as im getting 100mb it should be fine as wired on my old 100mb router worked fine?

I havent but i probably will as it is fairly dusty. Last time i had it in bits i was rattling for ages as i hadnt put it back together properly. Id still like to move it out of the front room though. I did have a usb wifi dongle from a mate but it was faulty and kept diserpearing from device manager.

    Hi
A friend of mine wants to upgrade from his gen 8 microserver, he wants more cpu power (at least one quad core Xeon) which means it has to be a pretty good server, however he wants to put 24tb + of hard drives in it so server shops say he should buy a NAS but NAS don't jhave powerful enough CPU's. any advice guys?
    Many thanks

SSD for OS and then 6tb x 4 gets you 24tb. What's the issue with putting them in the microserver? They are just trying to sell him something by the sounds of it.

    Thanks to beerman

6tb reds work in the n40 ad n54l, not tried a gen 8 but can't see why it wouldn't work.

Do they say it is a limitation of the server or of the OS? It may be a port limitation, I have 4x3TB in my Gen8 connected to a P222 RAID card and it has an external port where I can add another set of drives. Perhaps he could get this RAID card, connect the 4 internal drives to the internal port and use an external for the other RAID port? Better performance with a proper RAID card and becomes a true Microserver.

Added a new update to the original post:
Latest iLO4 firmware - The main reason for updating this is to reduce the fan noise in certain configurations (usually when set to AHCI), in my case it made a huge difference. I updated by downloading the Windows file, when running it select Extract, then connect the server iLO port to your network, browse to the iLO IP using a web browser on your computer, login using the details on the tag attached to the server, then select Administration, firmware, browse and upload the .bin file from the extraction.
    Download: http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/...&swEnvOid=4064

    Hi
ok I got another server and installed Windows Server 2012 R2, then installed DNS, DHCP AD & DS, at the moment I can connect remotely, its on my network but I cannot connect to internet on it, also some errors and warnings in server manager regarding the DNS.
I know this is off topic as its a Dell T20 but despite loading the mainboard drivers I still have yellow apostrophe next to SM Bus controller in device manager.
    Can anybody help?
    best wishes

You can right click the device in deviceman, properties, find the tab with a drop down box and select device ID, then copy paste into Google and it will help find the device so you can get a driver. Alternatively use http://drp.su but use advanced mode, untick the bits at the bottom and on the software tab. I prefer to use drivers on the manufacturers page so maybe identify using these techniques and find from manufacturer support site.

    Hi
All resolved, its amazing how a good nights sleep cures old age, retardation and stupidity - I dont need DNS, DHCP as my router does that doesn't it, duh! removed and all working again and missing driver found from Intel driver management tool.
I am cured lol, until later this afternoon when I am scheduled to do some more stupid stuff.
