Help Connecting an AV Receiver to my TV + BRDVD & Tivo.

I have a Panasonic 3D TV (Viera TX-L42ET60B) and have just bought a Sony STR-DH550 AV Receiver.

Here are the connections on my TV:

Here are the connections on my Receiver:

The theory is - connect by HDMI the receiver to the TV via the 2 ARC HDMI sockets yes?

Then I assume the bluray player should go into HDMI 1, and the Tivo into HDMI 3?

Presumably, that should mean whichever I am watching, be it the Tivo or the BR, the amp will send the sound AND the picture to the surround sound speakers and the telly?

With this lot connected, I can't watch the Tivo (Satellite TV) without the amp being on - the TV shows a blank screen on all HDMI 1, 2, and 3. If I switch the amp on, the HDMI 2 (ARC) switches the screen on to watch telly. Is there a way to allow the TV to broadcast without having the amp switched on, so picture & TV screen are on the TV only?

    New problem to solve techies...

My external HD connected to the TV via its USB doesn't play back any sound plugged into the TV USB socket.

How can I get audio to play via the receiver? The old One yo did it, but it wasn't connected via the ARC.

I got pretty much same setup as you, Pana GT50 and Sony Amp
    Sky into HDMI 1
Xbox One into HDMI 2 (ARC)

Don't use USB tho got Media Server and loop sound back thru Amp via Optical Cable for it but have no problem playing from media with the Amp off.

    Thanks to akimba

Amp off is fine too from the HDD.

Gonna try a digital audio cable from TV to one of the two on the amp, see if that picks it up.

Oh right so is it only when you play from HDD that you are saying not going thru AMP?

Yeah optical cable then will work put AMP on TV and Viera Link should auto go to Home cinema but I have noticed not always and if don't change you get it coming out of both which is a slight echo effect.

    Thanks to akimba

Another simple method is just get a headphone to aux lead and plug in your headphone socket!, everything should go through the amp that way ;-)
