Info Streaming XB1 games to Windows 10

Decided to take the plunge and install Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3 and test out the game streaming.

It works surprisingly well after a bit of a false start. There's very little info on the web on HOW to actually use it.

For anyone wanting to try this out there's a few caveats. You have to be running the latest build of Windows 10 Insider Preview and after installing it you will need to wait for the windows updates to happen to bring it up to date and update the XBox app which it will do on it's own if you leave it for a while. Start the XBox app up and find the "Connect" option on the left hand side of the window, Connect to your XBox One and then click the Stream option.

You do need an XBox One controller connected to your PCs USB port for it to start.

Tried a few games so far (Farcry 4, Forza 5 and some 360 titles.) Had a few issues but these are related to Windows Wifi issues where my SP3 loses wifi connectivity but this is a known bug with the current Windows 10 build.

Love being able to play my XBox One from anywhere in the house - even the garden Might have to invest in the wireless adaptor when it gets released later this year.

It streams whatever is on the XBox screen so I can't see why it would't stream TV as well. Can't try it as I don't actually have any live TV

Don't you have anything plugged into your HDMI IN port on your xbox?

Not at the moment. I am in the process of moving between houses so the xb1 is in my bedroom.

What are the bandwidth requirements if you know? Possible to do over the interwebs?

I'll give this a go tonight.

You cant do it over the interweb - needs to be local wlan - maybe with a vpn but i cant vouch for the quality of that. My xb1 and laptop are both on Wifi using HH5 and it's ok but win10 has some issues with wifi dropping out. Quality is pretty good though.

the only scenario I can see where this is usefull is if the missus is watching corrie and you want to do a bit of gaming, also going from your 48+ inch tv to a laptop or even destop monitor might be hard

that's what happened to me. Decided that I didn't like xbox on the TV, so bought a 24" benq gamming monitor. Love everything about it and now I can play while the Mrs watches her crap shows.

That will maybe change again when we get a better TV as our one is quite a few years old now.

Not got a Xbox One yet but plan on getting one. They seem to have slipped in a couple of features over the last couple of weeks that might see sales go up I reckon. This is one of em.

Just gotta convince the Mrs. Looks like I will be drinking from the furry cup tonight.

    Thanks to piggzy

Tried it earlier and it works well. The picture is pretty good seeing as I was streaming over wifi.

    Hi Guys,

I enrolled into the Windows 10 preview program, so i've been running Windows 10 for a few months. I have also tested the streaming side from my xb1 to my iMac under bootcamp and this works really well .. Next test is to see how well it works over the WAN, so i'm going to setup a VPN connection .... Then my new shiny all-in-one .. pc .... will be setup to dual-boot from 8.1 to 10 and then plugin a xb1 controller at hopefully at lunchtimes test it ... will let you know how it goes ..
