Default Recomend me a first bike.

I used to do a bit of Moto-x & green lane riding as a youth and I prefer the venture / tourer style of bike (even if the wind does get a bit tough at times)

I have never really rode on highways until 2 weeks back when I done my CBT and got a cheap 125 to put a few miles practice on before I go in for a full license. (been a car driver for 25+ years)

So, if / when I pass my test what would you advise as my first bike? I'm thinking Bandit / SV / Speed Triple / CBF

    Commuting 30 miles a day.
    Looking at 500 - 650cc
    Cheap insurance for 1st bike.
    Budget up to 2.5k

    Advise me wise bikers!

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean

Honda CB500, either the naked or the half faired S model. Bombproof twin engine, quick enough to lose you your licence, handles great, comfortable, cheap to insure (mine cost me 300 quid fully comp this year), and can be picked up fairly cheap.

Simple answer, you need suzuki SV650

    -80hp
    -plenty low end torque
    -beats GSXR600 on start
-motor is one of the best (unless you do wheelies)
    -full fairing or streetfighter look
    -easy parts swap from gsxr
    -easy on budget

once i have rights to post pics i will, coz i have one
