Delph to join Man City from Villa

Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has six England senior caps

Aston Villa captain Fabian Delph is set to sign for Manchester City, reports BBC WM.

The midfielder, who joined Villa from Leeds in 2009, signed a four-and-a-half year deal at Villa in January.

His future looked uncertain when Micah Richards, who moved from City to Villa this summer, said Delph
had asked
for his thoughts about the Sky Blues.

The 25-year-old
reportedly*
did not travel with the Villa squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Delph helped Villa retain their Premier League status last season, making 28 league appearances, and also played a key role in their run to the FA Cup final,
where they lost 4-0 to Arsenal.

On signing his new contract in January, the England international had said he intended to be at the club "for the long run".

"There was no way I was going to bail out,"
he said at the time.*

"This is my club and I want to be here. That's why I am committing my future."

Not backed himself to force his way into the first team. Shame though I thought he was one of the best on the pitch last season when villa came to city, onto the next.
Can see city promoting a couple of eds players rather than going after ready made home grown talent, which is a great chance for them would like to see inacheao, lopes and deneyer given a chance.
City been sniffing around wilshere too, but he's a bellwhaft, thankfully he's not leaving London but may leave the arsenal.

Delph clearly feels better to be big fish in small pound rather than a small fish in a big pond. Could of course argue champions league would help him develop but would he get in the team ?
Correct choice IMO as moving to city would end his dream of euro 2016 as he wouldn't be playing each week.

Good on Delph! You see players who have a good season for the team they play in week in week out and then City or Chelsea pick them up only to add to a bulging squad. City want more English players just to balance the home grown criteria. Maybe Richards has had a word with him to that effect. Good news for Villa and England fans as well to the good of the premier league

Wonder if its linked to Bentke leaving ?

Maybe Delph was assured Benteke would stay and a couple of decent additions added to move mid - table or above, this isn't happening so Delphs decided to go instead of a relegation battle next season.

I don't wish him any real harm. To come out with that statement before signing was pure stupidity though. Rot on the bench Mr Snake. Villa will do fine without you.
