Default Virgin Media poor wifi range on superhub

When we got upgraded to 50mb broadband with VM they gave us a new superhub and took away the Cisco modem and Netgear router all was fine then it started dropping the connection so they brought a new superhub but I find that in our house with solid brick(2 bricks thick) walls that 15 feet away and you some times cant get any wifi. So I'm thinking of using the superhub in modem mode and getting a router.

My question is, is there such a thing as a good cheap cable router that can handle 50mb or faster if they push up the speed?

    Thanks

Also I know there is a vid on you tube to take out the shit PCB antena's and replace them with proper antena's but I don't want to rip the superhub apart.

SH2 is shite but advice for best from it is scan for wireless networks and try pick one that doesn't overlap with the neighbours also wireless n/c (5ghz) might be better/not clash. Try different positioning/angles, try have as high as possible etc. Almost any router today will be 100mbit but gigabit ones are common too so will easily handle the Virgin 50mbit, wireless depends on protocol and equipment, also wireless is shared wired (generally) isn't.

I have to say that since we got SH2 we have had much better wireless and general network performance.

all SH's are bad, from what i have experienced, i only allow it to run as a modem and use a stand alone wireless router and have not looked back, been a good few years i have had this set up and its perfect, cant complaint

I also use a separate wireless router and put the SH in modem mode. It improved my wifi and I can now also utilise the DNS change option on my router for spoofing DNS for things like US netflix etc. I couldn't get on their site just using the superhub.

First I've heard of enabling modem mode in the SH2 that I've ha for a month now. I have great 2GHZ signal in the lounge and kitchen (often exceeding the 100MB line with 105/106mb) but the 5GHZ is terrible in the house, again I have 2x2 solid brick.

If one was to purchase a separate router and run SH2 in modem mode, what are the best ones to go for?

Top stuff, thanks very much, will look into this, the second seems to be a fav at the moment.

Recommended to my brother in law, who despite having an average ping of 18/25ms, always has issues playing Plex from Amazon Fire TV anything over 2mbps quality on H.264 formats.

I can however, on the same superhub, same Plex set up, stream around 4/5mbps from the same Plex app. So recommending these routers and see how he gets on!

I've got a couple of new boxed plug wifi repeaters that I bought from Aldi a few months ago but never used if anyone needs one.

You just plug one in mid way and press the WPS button and it repeats the signal or so it says on the box. I'll put them in BST if needed for £13 delivered. They cost me £20.

Moving on a bit, I bought a TP-LINK TL-WR841N from ebay it arrived yesterday so I pluged it in to a LAN port on my Sky ADSL router at work and set up the wifi all working fine good signal and speed from the TP-Link.

Got home put the SH into modem mode and plug the TP-Link into it useing the specified port for modem mode and could connect to the TP-Link but couldn't get online.

So changed the SH back to normal and pluged the TP-Link into a LAN port and it works!

So do I need to do anything else to the TP-Link to get internet on it, I have looked online but cant seem to find any info on doing it and what need to be changed on the TP-Link if any?

    Any ideas?
