What is the internet bandwidth like at both locations?
Where is the CRM database stored? On a static PC/server/NAS or on a portable such as a laptop?
What router does he have at the location of the database?

There will be two options really, either a VPN to connect to his LAN and then the CRM software at the remote location opens the database. The effectiveness of this will rely on good upload bandwidth at the database end and good bandwidth at the other end, also the database can't be too bandwidth hungry (e.g. Sage doesn't work too well over a VPN). You will need a static IP or dynamic DNS at the database end only, some routers allow for the VPN, if not a server can set up the connection, a NAS may have an app for VPN or a raspberry pi can be used.

The other option is for her to remote in to a PC on the LAN, obviously this requires a PC to be on and available for her to use but this will aid with bandwidth issues if the database doesn't play well over VPN.

    2 Thanks given to evilsatan

cheers buddy, im checking speeds tmrw and will check what machines will be using etc, pretty sure static pcs will be used .

would make sense to me for him to have the host machine with software and the databases on and the dns , hes on sky so pretty sure there router support dyndns and others

then vpn app running on both is that right Evil ?

No-ip.com is the best dynamic DNS provider IMO. Does he have a budget? If he were to buy a small server or even repurpose a PC as a server it could host the database and she could remote into it if the VPN didn't work well enough.

You can use VPN software to create the server and connect to it.

If possible go for a static ip instead of dynamic dns.

Just for example I rely on dynamic dns for my phone system, but sometimes if the router changes it's ip, remote phones may not register for up to a few hours.

what about RDP from remote location using dynamic dns to connect into database?
