    I worked out that mine costs about 38p per day in electricity if on for 24 hours.
    The rest of the cost you need to work out based on what you are dehydrating.

    It isn't about saving money its about choosing your own flavours when it comes to Jerky/Biltong and as I have discovered with fruit it is about quality. So much more flavour and sweeter than shop bought. Texture better too.

    FYI unless you slice the fruit up too thick it only takes 24-48 hours. Basically the Mrs buys any reduced fruit she see's when out shopping and in it goes.

    Silverside is a good alternative, but a tad more expensive
