    Default recommended newsgroup provider?

I haven't used these for ages.

I was using tweaknews but have read a few stories about a takeover and also many people seeing fraudulent transactions on the cards that they used for the payments, so Im reluctant to try them again.

    Any recommendations out there?

I use Tweaknews, any links to what you have read?

EDIT: Just read about the takeover...

I will be looking here and picking a new provider for when my subs are up:

You know he grew up as a little shitspark from the old shitflint and then he turned into a shitbonfire and driven by the winds of his monumental ignorance he turned into a raging shitfirestorm. If I get to be married to Barb I'll have total control of Sunnyvale and then I can unleash the shitnami tidal wave that will engulf Ricky and extinguish his shitflames forever. And with any luck he'll drown in the undershit of that wave. Shitwaves.

Never moved away from Astraweb in what must be 8+ years. Always been unlimited and rarely have a failed d/l.

SSL-News block account to backup AW (25Gb bought in Nov'12 and still got 5Gb remaining) shows how complete AW has been. Also have XS usenet in the mix.

Still using Newshosting here. Downloads still coming thick and fast.
Tried Tweaknews for a few months, but for certain reason, was no good for what I need it for.

I am affiliate for UsenetServer, Newshosting, Easynews, Pure Usenet and XLned, if you decide to signup, hit me up and it will help keep 'other services' alive.

I had used Astraweb for years but recently have been getting a lot of failed downloads. I have now moved to Usenetbucket and no problems so far. Cheap too.

I've just signed up for UsenetBucket and am getting a lot of 'Out of your server's retention' messages, probably takedowns.

    Anyone else get this?

Or can anyone recommend a Euro usenet provider with low takedowns and decent speeds? I used to be with Tweaknews and never really had any issues but after reading the above I let my subscription expire.

The only way to get around takedowns is to get it before it's taken down

True that! Else it's back to the private Torrent trackers.

Newshosting is reasonable and I seem to get most stuff. Still have to resort to Torrents for certain stuff.

Just because I'm from Yorkshire, it doesn't mean I'm as daft as look

I've been with Tweaknews for a while and never really suffered any issues because of takedowns. I've had the odd one but that's when I've known full well that something is a long shot and probably out of retention. Other than thar I rarely saw issues.

I've tried out UsenetBucket for a couple of hours this morning and had more takedowns than actual downloads. All of which are the same stuff that I normally go for.

I appreciate that I'm digging up a thread that's over a month old and at that time people seemed to be using UsenetBucket quite happily. But I wondered if this had changed and other UsenetBucket users were seeing the same issue.

Failing that I'll just try some free trials from other backbones and see what results they yield.

I used to be with Newshosting a bit back and they were very good - I can't remember why I moved away from them to be honest. But, these days they're part of HIghwinds according to the list on Reddit which puts me off a little

Most of them are, but I was under the impression NH weren't. But TBF, they are all subject to DMCA takedowns. So none are better than the other. Using the hook of 'we take longer to remove' no longer holds much water.

In early, grab it. Leave it a week. Miss the boat.
