Just feels like a better polished win8 personally and I think win7 still trumps them both for no-bloat usability

It might be a coincidence, but 2 weeks after upgrading my home server to Win10 and my HDD died.... I'm wondering if it put more strain o it somehow.
I'm sure I remember reading a study ages ago saying that PC's used in offices seemed to last longer, and the main suspicion was that they were left on 24/7 meaning less hard drive on/off cycles.

+1 On/off HDD power cycling shortens the life expectancy of the HDD. This is easily controlled through the OS power settings and from my experience, office PC's are usually set to never put the HDD to sleep after X-amount of inactive time. Over the course of any given day, depending on the use of a PC, the HDD may go the sleep (aka turn off/on) several times if allowed to through the OS power settings. Every one of these events is the same as turning the power off-on again as the motor winds down and winds up. By setting the OS power settings so the HDD never sleeps, the HDD only cycles off when the PC is de-energized. That said, today's HHD is pretty damn reliable. Instead, and something to consider, are drives that are constantly being accessed (as opposed to simply being energized) are the most susceptible to premature failure. IMHO (and being retired from HDD component engineering management), I never put my desktop HDD's to sleep; only the laptop, and even then only when on battery. Keep the drive spinning and watch the amount of HDD read/write activity.
Cheers,
Jeff

For 10 years+ I have just left my PC's on 24/7. Think I have had one HDD failure and that was a crap make old 80GB.
Running it on my Surface Pro 3 and it's slick. Fast and easy to use. Only problem I have is that sometimes when I power up my wireless is disabled and the only way I can re-enable it is to right-click the wireless icon in the system tray and select Troubleshoot option. It then turns the wifi on for me. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I upgraded from the Tech Preview and it's been rock solid since. Everything works, boots up crazy quick.
always seems to lock up while its shutting down installing updates but fine when its manually restarted
Twice I have had a graphic card driver problem - firstly on Day 1, and then this morning - which was the day after a Nvidia updated the driver to 355.82 (today the screen flashed white with colours interspersed). After restart it was fine.
Had 1 BSOD of a kind - sad smiley face said a problem had detected, but again I suspect that was the Graphics card driver on last week's update.
Other than that - all is as expected and running fine, boots to login screen in around 10 seconds on my SSD.
Bilbo.
To be honest as is obvious from my sig, I'm a mac man so my usage of win10 is restricted to the machine I use as a HTPC.
Boot up time is far better. It looks nice enough but doesn't look or feel as next gen or cutting edge as Microsoft would suggest in their adverts. So far for me it's an "OK" (which is more than win8 ever was in my eyes).

I have never even seen windows 8 running, let alone used it but from 7 to 10 does feel like a significant change for windows. I cant say I felt much change from 95 right up to win 7 but this certainly takes a lot of influences from android and other mobile OS and some other bits n bobs (like Amiga icons) to give it a good separation from pre 8 versions.
Everytime I upgraded in the past it was ALWAYS the feeling that everything was almost the same, but not quite as good. This time its so different, its impossible to get that feeling.
Try copying 10000 files of a few k each and see how win x deals with that over win 7.
Theres a lot of background improvements not everyone will notice.

I did actually dig out my HP stream 7 win 8 tablet the other day and due to (prescription) drug induced insomnia, I gave it the 4.5 hours attention it needed to update to win 10
The news is this, it's changed it from an ok when I need it machine into much more pleasurable to use.
Impressive for an atom with 1GB RAM

Agree with u on that Malty. I think the touch accuracy is better now as well. My chipolata fingers made using it a bit of a mare sometimes.
Did u clean install or upgrade?
I bought the stream 7 to try and dual boot it with various OS's, but win x is great on it.

I upgraded. I had to plug in a keyboard for the first login but afterwards the on screen keyboard popped up.
It's definitely more fluid than win8 for that device. Like it was really meant for win10.
