Out of curiosity what are you lot using software wise as the server to your Kodi client???

Also does said server stream over the net?

Thanks for your info. Not sure but thinking of switching my server.

Used to just have shares setup to windows folders when I used openelec on my old RPi. Was a bit shit cause that's windows... Converted to plex for simplicity in the end.

Plex media server installed on the server which allows streaming over the net to friends/family.

Within kodi windows share looking at the server folder.

WHS 2011 in N54l microserver. But Plex is far better, share all my media with friends and df VIP members. Streams perfectly over the web.

plex here also, if you want to stream outside ya network the easy option is to pay for a subscription, considering all the work put into it for all the platforms its totally worth it,

Was a plex user previously and subscribed to Plex premium but I started having loads of issues even streaming locally so ended up ditching it.
I always did wonder if it just needed a reinstall and probably did but I jumped ship to EMBY which does everything PLEX does without subscription but now I am having issues with that lol
Maybe that needs a reinstall or maybe Plex has improved.

Do none of you have issues with 1080p stuff. Maybe I should start noting which codecs the films with issues are using e.t.c

If anyone wants to try it :

no prob at all, I play Blu-ray 40gig m2ts format, and 1080p rips all fine, also 4k vids at a low enough bitrate, get ya self back on plex , I use the app on my 4k Samsung tv, movies are silky smooth and look great

I reckon I was lazy and should have done a reinstall. Will stick with EMBY till I can be arsed to redo it all.

What is the going rate on PLEX these days to share over tinterweb ????

Edit: But maybe I am being lazy again as EMBY is free after all maybe I am making same mistake again pmsl
