    So apparently I need glasses?

My results from an eye test are...

    R +2.00
    L +1.50 -0.50 90.0

WTF does that mean - anyone know?

I asked about getting lasers (not like cyclops) and they said my eyesight was not bad enough to require laser correction? if they need fixing surely they need fixing?

If I get contact lenses are there any problems with them wearing every day?

I guess I can get glasses but think they are freakish so would rather avoid them if possible, am I fucked and gonna have to get them?

Maybe I should watch less porn is it that that is slowly making me go blind?

This means you are a little long sighted in both eyes, right side worse then left (if the first number is - you are short sighted, if + you are long sighted, the higher the number the worse). Also you have slight astigmatism in your left eye (your eyeball isn't perfectly spherical which distorts your vision).

These results definitely appear to be the effect of watching too much porn. BTW, short sighted people tend to have higher IQ's

You can wear contact lenses daily, but you aren't supposed to wear them all day every day (unless they are they type you keep in all day and night for a month). I've worn them all day every day for almost 15 years, opticians can normally tell the blood vessels in my eye have slightly widened but they are still happy to give me new prescriptions and no one can notice irl. (Not that I am recommending it to you....) Best to see your optician for advice and you will probably need to trial some lenses (Specsavers often give the trials for free).

If you can see well enough to do what you need to do, then you might not need to wear them, although I would definitely advise wearing glasses/lenses if driving, operating industrial machinery, etc.

Funny you say you were told your eyesight isn't bad enough to bother with laser. Mine is -5.50 / -6.25 and I've been told that if it was less than 4.00 surgery would be very likely to work. Above 4.00 and they say hopefully they can get it perfect, but there is still a fair chance lower prescription glasses/contacts will still be needed which makes me wonder what would be the point.

I had just slightly better vision then you prezzy and had laser in 2011, it's one of the best things I ever did.

If you do go for it don't be fooled by all the addons such as wave form etc it's all bollocks even the way the cut the flap of the eye can add 900£

Cheers, some great info there - just booked in for a consultation for laser surgery so will see what they say after that, would rather just get them sorted for a couple of grand or whatever than fanny around with glasses / contact lenses.

The only thing that bothers me about laser is how many times you will be able to have it. Your eyes will change. My script has gone all over the place but gone from -3.5 in one eye back to -2.5 now while the other eye has gone from - 0.5 to -1.5. What happens when this happens post surgery? Also had a mate who had laser which they fucked up so he had more to correct the mistake and now wears glasses after they couldn't sort it.

For anyone that has had laser surgery are there any noticeable after effects? I've read about a halo effect when driving at night. My best mate had one done about 22 years ago so he kept one natural eye.

I've had it 4 years now and my vision is still spot on, I haven't had any side effects, the halo effect I can get if cars have them super bright blinding lights xenons?

I was told my eyes would degrade naturally so can imagine needing glasses or laser again in the future.

I did mine with optimax in London and service was spot on. You will have to walk around in sun glasses for a while and look like a cunt if it's winter as it was for me.

There's two types of laser treatment depending on what you require ones called Lasik and I'm not sure what the other is called. My wife had the former about 10+ years ago and has never had an issue. I think they will only do it if your eyes have been fairly stable for a couple of years. I wear the 30 day contacts that you can sleep in and find them to be brilliant. I've never had an issue plus there much cheaper than having laser treatment.

Lasek is the other one done a load of reading and if I can I am going to go for the best available technology with waveform etc 3 or 4k is not much to pay for perfect vision imo. Not sure I see the point in fucking about when it comes to vision, my holiday in a couple of weeks is costing me upwards of 3k so I don't see the outlay as exorbitant to get my eyes fixed, will just go for the best available option offered.

Work on computers all day long so my eyes get real tired by the end of the day, be nice to be able to read small text on stuff without having to resort to magnifying devices - I have noticed a deterioration of my eyesight in the last couple of years, should have had glasses when I was around 10, I got some but thought they looked shit so never wore them... have done pretty well putting it off for 25+ years.

Good point, I believe the best practise is to wait for a while with regular eye checks to ensure the required prescription is stable before proceeding with laser. (I'm not an optician or anything but I looked into it years ago and I was told not to bother at that time for that reason).

Seem to remember Bert that you're diabetic? When my dad became diabetic one of the signs was his vision changed (far sighted to short sighted). Just wonder if it's OK to have laser treatment.

Had my laser eye cunsultation a cpl weeks ago and it turns out my eyes are worse than I thought...

Unaided Vision Right Eye Left Eye Binocular - What you see without your glasses or contact lenses What you see with both eyes together
    Distance Visual Acuity 6/9 6/9 6/9
    Near Visual Acuity 6/9.5 6/9.5 6/9.5

Vision With Eye Prescription Right Eye Left Eye
    Sphere +3.50 +3.25
    Cyl -1.25 -1.00
    Axis 80 100
    Distance Visual Acuity 6/6-2 6/6-2
    Near Visual Acuity N4 N4

They basically said I was too young to get laser treatment I need to wait until I am around 50 then will need lenses in my eyes replacing...

Got contact lenses today which strange in the eye seem pretty good though can definately tell the difference in terms of tiredness in my eyes. Will try and stick with them for another 14 years. Slightly gutted was wanting to just go and pay to get them sorted for good.

    Thanks to prezzy

Just be very careful with contacts, i was very carefull and still ended up with an ulcer on my eye, and its fucking painful.
lucky for me it was to the side of my pupil or i would have had a perm floater which would have impaired my vision even more.

I've gone back to glasses now as contacts can never get 100% of your prescription.
I do wear contacts if going out or on holiday but thats it.

    Thanks to consoles

Hmm for my eyes he said that with glasses I would only get half my prescription where as with contacts I would be able to get the full one - may be to do with me being longsighted and having astigmatism in one of my eyes. Also putting off wearing glasses which I was told to wear when I was 10 or something.

Same again I guess it is different depending on your eyes they bascally said for me my eyes would start to deterioate further once I get past 40 and if I had them lasered now I would need glasses anyway when I am 50 so may as well wait and just get the lenses replaced when I get to 50.

I was fully committed to paying the max money for everything they offered so probs close to 4k. Can only go with what the optician says, gone for the softest daily contacts so hopefully should be ok.

i get the monthly ones, take them out every night, daily disposables are too expensive for me as i have an astigmatism. with regards to laser, you really need to have s table prescription for at least 18 months before considering it, and dont always go for the cheapest place because the aftercare wont be so great either. for me, i am not fussed about wearing glasses/lenses and i am late to this, i got glasses when i was 28 so i understand managing that change is a bit of a challenge but now i am so used to this that i have no issues.
