its illegal to do it which is why the video feed goes off when your driving.

Not only that I'm pretty sure if a dealership plugged in to reset a service interval etc. it would wipe the option and you'd have to reapply it. I've not seen this mod for free, it's usually around 100 quid (where the feck is the pound sign on a US keyboard?)

Haven't done this mod myself but it looks like it's pretty easy as it appears the units were designed to allow Japanese spec versions to have VIM

If it's an early version with CCC (smaller screen), with NCSExpert/NCSDummy you would need to connect to CCC_APP and modify the following value:

VIDEO_DENY - DISABLE VIDEO / TELEVISION WHILE DRIVING (LINKED TO [SPEEDLOCK_FREISCHALTMENU] IN CIC)

This will probably be set to the 2nd option : deny_stop_brake. I have a very strong feeling if you change that to the 4th option, deny_never - never deny, then you would get video in motion.

If it's a later model with CIC, we would also need to use NCS to change the following setting:

SPEEDLOCK_FREISCHALTMENU - UNLOCK MENU FOR VIDEO/TELEVISION WHILE DRIVING (LINKED TO [VIDEO_DENY] IN CAPPL)

This should be on the 2nd option, nicht_aktiv, not enabled, would need to change this to the first option aktiv - enabled

I've read somewhere online that another file needs to be manually modded if you have a CIC which I am sceptical about but I haven't done this myself so can't definitely say.

Please note this post is provided for educational purposes only. This would be perfectly legal to do for demonstation purposes on private property but seek legal consultation and discuss with your insurance company before driving a car on any road or public area after performing such a modification.

The change would probably stick if the car went into a dealership for a service, only way it would get wiped is if they need to reprogram the whole car for some reason - as the car is well out of warranty this would probably only happen if a control unit needed to be replaced.

    Thanks to Over Carl
