socket 1151 only has a dual memory controller, although quad memory will still work, but only run as dual, so id stick with 2x8

Yup 2x8GB. Being able to upgrade to 32GB is a gift.

How far have you come with this CMG? I've just ordered all my items for a build so will probably crack on with it the weeknd or next week.

im buying the bits as and when I can afford them sadly. Next thing ill be buying with be the corsair h80i cpu cooler in January... a part every month... lol

Taking your times probably best you can then buy the best you can afford rather then cheaper alternatives.
Have you bought your processor yet? The sky lakes that are locked can now be over clocked using certain bios so it's worth having a read up on them.

Haven't bought the processor yet but I plan on going for the i7 6700k

I have bee building he lian-li table for a few weeks now, not gone overboard yet but time will tell lol
I will try to get some pics up but we are in the middle of sorting out to move to a new house so its all a bit messy here.
I'm sure the pre-applied stuff will be fine. You're better off not fucking about with it and risking mucking it up.

Have read these reviews before. But from first hand experience it makes a difference. Have cured overheating PC's by simply scraping off the old thermal paste and using silver.
Difference in reported CPU temperatures too.
To be fair you should be ok from brand new though. I find it makes more of a difference with rigs after a couple of years.
need a bit of input on RAM fellas....
posted this to Asus ROG's facebook page...
I want to go for the RIPJAWS V Series... http://www.cclonline.com/product/186...y-Kit/RAM2975/, so i can eventually upgrade to 32gb later on...'
- Hi. I bought your Hero VIII board and wanted to know if the G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB (2x 8GB) 3000MHz DDR4 RAM is compatible..
Its not listed in the manual but wanted to double check before ordering...
Thanks
- ASUS Republic of Gamers UK Hi Bryan smile. I would recommend sticking to listed RAM as there may be compatibility issues with other modules, and we aren't able to provide help for anything that isn't officially supported!
do you think there would be any issues as it isnt "officially" supported...
in the manual the only g.skill memory either 3000mhz or above is 4x4gb layouts... and its the g.skill ripjaws 4 series...
You would most likely have no issues at all. They are simply saying they haven't tested it.
There is never a 100% guarantee for these kind of things but any stability issues are usually sorted by a quick firmware update.
