Default Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review - No Spoilers

I'm surprised no one has posted anything yet.

Saw this last night and overall was happy with it, although it's not quite up to the standard of the original trilogy. It is light years ahead of the prequels though and does 'feel' like a Star Wars movie. It would be difficult to review any further without giving too much away but needless to say the special effects are spectacular and nearly all the new characters are memorable and make the most of the opportunity. If I had to score it - 7/10.

I was lucky to be invited to a hospitality in London on Thursday, so special that the bold one from gadget show was there!
Best 3d film I've ever seen, hate them normally.
Agree very happy with it overall, but not as good as the original.

    A good 7/10

I've watched it three times now - did the 00:01 showing on Thursday then another hospitality in London that evening - probably a different one down on Piccadilly but did walk away with a free light sabre! Then tonight just back from Bradford IMAX.

I've seen the 3d version twice and the 2d once - I preferred 3d but the IMAX didn't seem as in your face as at the Xplus.

I loved it and it's actually gotten better with each watch as you spot more and more little details you miss first time around.

I went for a 9/10 on IMDB and think it's definitely worth more than a 7 - Star Wars is back! Hopefully the next one will live up to expectations - I wanted to watch it straight away!

I absolutely loved it, and can't wait to see it again.

Yeah it sagged a bit in the middle, and there are plot holes and a number of contrivances....but it's a star wars film, that's just stuff you accept about it.

I think they did a really good job of making it about the new characters, and not just the old ones. And the new bad guy? Fantastic.

    Climactic light sable duel......outstanding.

If i'm honest i left the cinema a little disappointed...
I'm not sure what i was expecting but it felt like all the memorable bits of the Star wars movies had just been stitched together and then a weak story line was thought up to accommodate this.

Don't get me wrong the film was epic visually and over all i enjoyed it, it just felt like the storyline had already been done before and it was nothing new, having said that its tied up some loose ends and has set a good base for the next two so fingers crossed

Default Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review - No Spoilers

There were a lot of things I didn't like. But overall I really enjoyed it. The plot was VERY predictable and as said above just parts of the other films stitched together. It had me grinning like a Cheshire Cat during the battle scenes. I want to see it again but wish a few things were different. It did seem that too much content was there to enable the story to unfold in the time allocated. This made some bits pointless. I would definitely like to see a directors cut.

I really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun, well paced and it looked great and most of all it felt like a Star Wars film 8/10 for me.

overall a very good film, some aspects i wasnt a fan of, but i think it has a bit of the magic of the first 3 with the CGI of the prequels but i am going to go again for sure to watch it, more to just pick at the details for future films

I must be the only one who couldn't give a flying fuck about these films. Enjoyed the original ones and that's about it.

Don't think George Lucas is worth all the praise he gets tbh.

    Each to their own.

Yep, you are on your own.

However, I would recommend you see it, seeing as how you liked the original trilogy. It is much better than the latter Episodes 1-3.

George Lucas came up with a great story in SW but is not a great Director (alright, I'll give him American Graffiti).

The Empire Strikes Back was luckily done by Irvin Kershner and added, IMHO, some well-needed character to the roles.

I think we are all lucky that Lucas did not direct SW:TFA. It would not be the quality film we have today.

During the lightsabre fight toward the end, I was waiting for a certain someone to show up. The fact that they didn't really put a downer on the whole thing to be honest and didn't really make any sense. I think it would have brought the house down.

I don't know. Lucas did a great job with the story for Indiana Jones 4

Lucas had nothing to do with the story for The Crystal Skull - it was co-written for the screen by Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption & The Green Mile), Geff Nathanson (Currently doing some work on the script for the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean movie), Jeffrey Boam (Inner Space and The Lost Boys) and last but by no means least Jeb Stuart, the brilliant screenwriter writer for one of my fave films Die Hard.

The screenplay was then tweaked and polished by none other than David Koepp, a gifted screenwriter who did a superb job on such films as Jurassic Park and Mission: Impossible and then given the green light by Producer Frank Marshall (co-founder of Amblin Entertainment). Marshall was also producer on the original Raiders.

Lucas is lauded as being Producer, Writer and Director of a lot of things and I'm very sure he has a hand in them, how much of a hand is debatable.

The original Star Wars is fucking amazing. Lucas directed that. And THX 1138 is a good film too. The process of getting Star Wars to screen damn near killed him which is why he didn't direct anything again until the prequels, by which point I think he was more interested in the technology than directing the actors . I personally think had Lucas continued to direct he'd have made some great films. I've never understood the hatred for him. He gave us Star Wars AND Indiana Jones FFS. Look at the shit Michael Bay and Zach Snyder churn out and tell me they've made anything close to what Lucas has given us.

I'm pretty sure it was Lucas' story. He didn't write the screenplay but the story was mainly his idea as are all of the Indy movies.

HDTS in the usual places. Spanish text at the start but watchable if you are seeing it again.

If you google it their are numerous links stating that Lucas was responsible for the story and writing of the film. This is also backed up my IMDB and wikipedia e.t.c

Yes, go and see it, even if you do not know about the SW history and the characters.

Jeff Nathanson co-wrote IJ:TKOTCS, although it is a very poor story so I'm kinda not surprised if Lucas did indeed have a heavy hand in it.

IMDB and Wikipedia? I don't believe everything I read on the Internet and neither should you (including this post)
