The shite chinese ones on ebay will work most probably come from dealxtreme.com. Personally I wouldn't buy one as I don't want to support China financially for various reasons and don't want to support the leather industry (they ALL come with leather pouches). Since 2.5" don't require an external power source like the 3.5" ones there's little risk of poor safety standards causing a fire.

Also, watch out for long delivery times on ebay ones, most ebayers will dropship from China.

    Thanks to Mule

If it's going to be your boot device, why wouldn't you mount it internally?

Your BIOS should give the option to boot from external drives from the boot menu or use something like SARDU or YUMI. Pretty sure you can get a boot menu using one of those that will boot off internal or external.
